A Huntsville, Alabama cop convicted of murder for the deadly 2018 shooting of a man was put on leave yet is still being paid for his police job, the city said.
28-year-old William “Ben” Darby was pronounced guilty on Friday for the murder of Jeffrey Parker, who held a gun to his own head and made suicidal threats.
Darby was released on a $100,000 bond Friday and was put on paid administrative leave of absence Monday while he waits to be sentenced.
“Due to Mr. Darby’s conviction, he cannot continue as a police officer,” city of Huntsville spokesperson Lucy DeButy informed AL.com. “This is the normal process until formal proceedings under the City of Huntsville’s personnel policies and procedures are complete.”
Darby, age 28, shot and killed Parker in his face within 11 seconds of entering his property on April 3, 2018, after shouting at the initial responding police officer, Genisha Pegues, to “point your f--king gun at him.” Parker had phoned 911, professing he was armed and wanted to commit suicide, and also was aiming a firearm at his own head.
“An innocent man was murdered,” Tim Gann, Madison County’s chief trial lawyer, informed the court, AL.com reports. “He called for help and he got Ben Darby.”
Darby faces between twenty years and life behind bars.

Who would want to be a cop in the USA in today's world? I hope you are an advocate for the 2nd amendment if not cross your fingers and hope for the best. I don't know about this case(he may be a scum bag) but cops are getting a bad rap in today's world.
