While you offer an explanation for the split character in the story, the reader is free to apply several interpretations. The one you offer has a valid scifi perspective. It might also be that a reader with a psychological bent would suggest Solomon invented this persona because it was needed. And, in the yet, he retired the persona because it was no longer needed.
In any case, an interesting story :)
