I waited for the part where this young man's good gesture would be rewarded, probably by the guy he helped. Still, a good story with messages to pass. I imagined the horror of the narrator, how bad his life was, and added to that, the loss of his mum. I guess the only consoling thought he had was that he saved a life by helping that young man at the park. Life is just or even more brutal than described in your story, but in all, we must continue to live and survive somehow.

You are right though, life can be brutal atimes, but still, we see people show kindness even thought battling with their own struggles.
At least, some form of solace is found in him knowing that he helped save a life.
