Not a lot of attention is often paid to the depth behind something that comes off as shallow when observed from the outside.
I love the fact that you went into such extent to show what the main character's actions mean. I believe it was Stephen Fry who said that poets/writers can't be lazy and I do often feel writers add so many events and make a chaos. Reading this is kinda like watching a person take a deep breath as they look into a mirror, it is a unique feeling. It is like someone saying "The world is going nowhere, let's do this first". Nicely written.
