Just a False Tarot Reading
I was running fast in the pouring rain, seeing the red eye of the creature that chasing me at the corner of my eye, and hearing the sound of its paws hitting the mud.
As I was running breathlessly in the cold rain, my foot caught on a piece of wood.
I smashed at the ground as the mud filled my nose and mouth and when I turned around and opened my eyes, I saw it staring at me, its saliva dripping from between its claw-like teeth.
''Madame Arabelle will see you. Please respect her.''
I entered through the door of a thick cloth tent. As if the dim light of the already overcast and gray sky wasn't enough, there was only candlelight inside.
A single red candle on a black tablecloth fought to light the tent. As It struggled unhappily, a pair of twinkling green eyes appeared behind it.
''Welcome, adventurer. You came to me to find out about your future. But I am only an intermediary, I will do my best to read the webs of fate... Now...''
The woman sounded like a grandmother who had smoked too many cigarettes, over her entire life.
Dry and crunchy.
She opened a few tarot cards in her hands and began to shuffle them slowly and gently. She shuffled for a few minutes as if she wanted me to make sure the cards were completely mixed.
This went on for so long that I was getting bored and that's when she told me to pick a card.
I slowly reached out and touched a card and she waited for me to pull it out completely. Then I took it out and put it face up on the table.
Some kind of red-eye card.
''The woman must have been shocked because she looked at me with big eyes.
I see it!
The beast's claws will be wrapped around your body! You will try to escape from it, but you will fail.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
You don't need to open a second card. Fate hasn't woven such a web for you. Please get out.''
As I walked out, surprised, I reached for the pouch of gold at my waist and handed it to her.
But she was so focused on the card that she didn't seem to notice the few gold coins I had left on the table.
Nevertheless, I wished her a good day and walked out of the tent.
I took my sword and dagger from the guard where I had left them and without looking him in the eye, I wished him a good day as well and walked towards my horse, and rode towards the path through the forest.
Twenty minutes ago
I was thinking how stupid this fortune teller woman was when the rain started to increase. It had been almost forty minutes and the city was only half an hour away. I kept moving forward, even though the horse was getting cranky and unhappy with the rain.
Then I heard a crackling in the forest.
I put my hand on my sword in case some bandits were following me, even in the rain, and continued to ride without slowing down.
I kept one eye focused deeper into the forest. I wanted to see if anyone was coming, but the fog made it difficult.
I think these bandits were going to catch me. I might have to fight.
Five minutes ago
Did the bushes move?
Movements?
A few people walking around me and sloshing in the mud? Maybe.
It was about time. It wouldn't be right to be caught on horseback. So with all my strength, I urged the horse to gallop.
"Hiyaa!''
At that very moment, the horse locked eyes with a wolf, about the size of a bull, that jumped from a tree in front of it.
It was so scared that it threw me off!
I landed hard on my back on the ground.
When I quickly recovered and looked around, I could see the pain of my horse and the blows of the claws of the huge wolf-like creature. I couldn't believe my eyes and realized that I had to run.
I ran.
I was running fast in the pouring rain, seeing the red eye of the creature that chasing me at the corner of my eye, and hearing the sound of its paws hitting the mud.
As I was running breathlessly in the cold rain, my foot caught on a piece of wood.
I smashed at the ground as the mud filled my nose and mouth, and when I turned around and opened my eyes, I saw it staring at me, its saliva dripping from between its claw-like teeth.
I drew my sword and realizing that I had no time to pray, stabbed the creature in the stomach, gave it a quick thrust and when I saw that it was in pain, I pulled it down hard.
It was not moving.
I was free!
Yes, I was saved!
The damned madwoman was wrong. Her tarot reading was a fiasco. Just a False Tarot Reading...
I drew my sword from the creature's belly and as I fell on the mud I heard a murmur around me.
A grunt.
A rumbling.
It sounded very deep.
I turned my head and saw two more red eyes behind the trees.
"Come here, you damn asshole! I killed your friend, now it's your turn!
Another wolf, the size of a bull, emerged from behind the fog, circling around the trees. Then I heard another growl and snarl.
I looked around and realized I was surrounded, facing a pack. Maybe six?
I wiped the blood mixed with dirt from my nose with the back of my hand and
I said, "Let's dance!''
