I always say it—
I don't feel the way they do.
When you cut me I don't bleed,
When you hurt me I just leave.
What would be my reason to stay
I'm not a superhero.
I wouldn't be scared,
It would even be weird.
For me to see this situation and act nervous.
How many times will people show they don't want us.
Let me tell you about my brother Adé
Adé in my language means crown by the way.
Adé went to a country far far away.
Adé was a good boy.
Adé would never do anything provocative.
That's why I don't understand why they won't hate him.
Why would they hate Adé.
Adé was sleeping on his bed and got shot.
He didn't get a chance to run from the gunshot.
They couldn't appreciate him for what he had within.
All because of Adé was chocolate.
All because of the colour of his skin.
My family cry because of Adé today.
But I'm not going to cry because to me Adé saves the day.
But to the oppressors I ask, for how long?

good, insightful poem.
Thank you so much
What to say about such a poem? It is so personal. I feel for you, for your family and most of all, for your brother.
Thank you. It means so much to me, it hurts me when the lives of black people are being affected by racism.
Good piece but it's very sad. The meaning is very deep but it gives me an idea what was it about.
Thank you. Yes it is very sad indeed. Nobody wants such a thing to happen to them
