THE WISHBONE

in The Ink Well2 years ago (edited)

Two friends Tayo and Deji were coming back home from school hurriedly, they were playing football with their other friends and mistakenly forgot the time and when Tayo remembered that both their parents hard warned them not to come home late again it was already too late.

It was already getting quite dark and they were both running so they could get home before it got completely dark which meant more troubles, beatings and well deserved punishments.

They lived about a stone's throw from each other and normally went to school and returned back together, they were both coming up with lies they would tell when they got home when Deji suddenly halted as if he were a car in full gear about to have an accident.

Deji had seen a weirdly shaped object lying on the ground, he bent and picked it up and he recognized it immediately.

Tayo!!! Tayo!!!

He called out to his friend was still running and had not noticed that Deji had stopped.

What're you doing Deji?? Let's run back home before it gets dark.

Tayo said with worry on his face as he raced back to where Deji was.

Do you know what this is?

Deji said raising the strange object

No i don't

Tayo replied

Well my friend it seems that lady luck has decided to shine on us today, this is a very rare wishbone, my older sister told me that it brings good luck to anyone who cracks it.

So?? is that why you stopped? What has it got to do with our situation?

Tayo asked with a growing rage.

Weren't you listening? if we crack this evenly then we won't have to worry about anything again because luck would be on our side from now on.

Deji said with a smile on his face

Listen i don't have time for your nonsense today, i am running back home and if you like waste more of your time.

Tayo said as he zoomed off till he was out of sight.

Deji broke the wishbone into two and kept half in his bag for Tayo incase he needed it.

Deji strolled casually to his house for the remaining part of the journey, he was pretty sure that he would be lucky but he got a reality check when he got home, his entire family which included his parents and his very much older siblings were seated in the living waiting for him.

Deji was grounded for a week which meant that after school one of his sibling had to come and pick him, he was also sent to bed on an empty stomach which taught him a bitter lesson.

Tayo on the other hand was the lucky one, his parents merely just cautioned him severely from repeating the behavior and he was neither grounded not was he sent to bed on an empty stomach, on the contrary he ate a sumptous meal of jollof rice, chicken, salad and soft drinks.

Deji narrated his painful ordeal to his friends the next day in school and they had pity on him, Tayo then said

Sometimes it's not a good idea to believe myths and legends because some might be made up.

They all agreed to this and Deji threw away the wishbone which was still in his pocket.

THE END

😂. Oh my God.
That must have been a shocker for Deji.
Well, he learned his lesson the hard way.
I love your story. ☺️

Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well, @emeka002. Deji certainly learns a lesson in this tale of the trials of childhood.

Note that we ask our community members to avoid any graphic violence in stories published in our community, such as the beating of children. Thank you for reading and commenting on other stories. (Another word of advice: please do not request curation.) Thank you.

There is no child violence here, just a mere parent discipline.

For the curation you barely curate my posts everytime i write and i always have to remind you people about it, even this current post has not been curated properly which is awkward.
