RE: Replaced.

Families almost always have some secrets. When my mom died in 2016 (at the age of 86), a cousin of my father told us that my father had a child before he got married to my mom. They approached my dad's sister back then, when the girl turned 16, in order to tell her who her father was. But my aunt (whom I never got to know) said that this won't happen and our cousin told us that my dad would not acknowledge this child of his. So, no word got out until more than 50 years later. Nobody knows if this woman is still alive or not. By now, the elders are gone and we cannot ask anyone.

I wonder, do you have contact to this half sister of yours? Ever got to know her? May I ask how old you were when you finally found out about this secret?
At least she got a present from her dad and you did so, too.

Life is always very interesting :)

So you have something of a similar story. I found out when I was 12. We didn't become good friends or anything but she did end up working for me for some 15 years in the 1980s. We do still keep in touch but it's only a card once a year at Christmas. I'd have no idea what's going on in her life, nor she in mine.
Life is certainly never dull.

That's quite a long time! It makes me wonder why the two of you broke up contact. But then I know it's a very personal question :)

Though we have a somewhat similar story I never got to know my half sister and ask myself what kind of life she had and if she still is alive. Very strange, in a way.

Strange indeed. If still alive your half-sister likely wonders the same thing about you.

The 2 of us were never close, even when she worked for me it was in a workforce of over 50, so we didn't have much personal contact. After my father died I moved out of the city so it's just a card or a mail once a year now.
