The Deer of Artemis (ESP-ENG)

in The Ink Well21 days ago

In the earthly bar of the god Dionysus, two soldiers of the god Ares' troops were enjoying a few beers while talking animatedly. Between laughter and jokes, one of them mentioned the temple of the goddess Artemis in the middle of a vast jungle, guarded by wild animals.

— What a danger for anyone trying to steal something from that temple! What is the goddess hiding there?— exclaimed the more robustly built man.

—That's the most interesting thing, don't you think? -answered the other man with short dark hair and contrasting blue eyes. -Some say he hides his magic deer. Any human who looks into the animal's eyes acquires a supernatural ability, like that of the gods.

Aura, one of the bastard daughters of the god Hephaestus with a human, was famous among those who knew her for her fierce nature as a demigoddess. From a nearby table, she had been quietly listening to the conversation, and a spark ignited in her mind as she learned that such an important treasure had been hidden from the rest of the world by her aunt Artemis. Little by little, he began to imagine being close to that deer and looking into its eyes. It would not be easy to reach the animal, but the idea of ascending from seventh demigoddess daughter to goddess excited her. So she decided to approach the men and join the conversation.

— How can I face the beasts of the goddess and enter the temple? — she asked in a calm but determined voice.

The men were taken aback at the sight of the dark hooded woman who approached them unexpectedly, tall and slender, with intense black eyes that intimidated them. Despite being a complete stranger, they were soon encouraged to exchange some ideas with her about the best alternative for entering the temple of Artemis. Each tip involved stealing some of the gods' most valuable pieces, such as Zeus' eagle to fly to the site, or the violin of the god Apollo to use its melody to put the animals to sleep. However, all these ideas were really impossible for her, so her only chance to see the deer would be to fight the beasts and shoot them down.

That same night, Aura secretly visited the abode of her father Hephaestus. She knew every nook and cranny, having grown up among the flames and machines of her father, so it was not difficult for her to reach his room undetected. Stealthily, she found the magic hammer next to Hephaestus' bed. The piece was unique, forged by Hephaestus himself. It had an elegant design, with runes engraved on its handle and a golden glow that made it glow in the dark. He carefully stowed it in his bag and left the residence to walk out into the dark night towards the jungle.

Upon arriving at the indicated place, Aura encountered the first animal that guarded the temple of the goddess: a huge lion that roared loudly and rushed towards her with the intention of catching her with its sharp claws. Despite the threat, Aura remained calm, she felt no fear, it was him or her. She faced the lion with grace and dexterity, striking accurate blows with the magic hammer. Each blow she struck with the hammer, the beast weakened and retreated, unable to resist the supernatural force of her power.

As the fight continued, a gargantuan and terrible tiger appeared behind her back, looking menacing. It seemed unstoppable, but she managed to knock it out with a single blow, thanks to the combat skills she learned in the clandestine training camps of her uncle Ares. She managed to fight her way through the jungle.

Only ten meters from the entrance of the temple, a large leopard appeared in front of her. Without thinking twice, she set out to fight him as well. Although the animal proved to be more formidable than the previous ones, Aura refused to give up. Despite the wounds that the beast had inflicted on her arms and legs and the fatigue that invaded her, she found the inner strength to continue fighting, motivated by her desire to become a goddess and stop being the mockery among the legitimate children of Hephaestus.

Aura mentally traced every move and blow she would execute next, until finally, with a decisive blow from the magic hammer, she brutally brought down the beast.

With a pounding heart and the satisfaction of emerging victorious from the fight, she walked triumphantly towards the temple of Artemis, ready to meet the stag and when she did, she felt an instant connection with the majestic creature with a piercing gaze and imposing horns, as if they were destined to cross paths. The deer's gaze mesmerized her, seeming to read her soul and understand her deepest desires. It was in that instant that the deer transformed her into a goddess, infusing her with the power and grace of the deities. Her hair became golden like the sun, her eyes shone with the brilliance of the stars and her skin radiated a divine light. From that day on she was known as the Goddess of the Woods, worthy to be revered by mortals and gods alike.
