The Falseglitter family (ESP-ENG)

—¿Qué has encontrado, papá?

—No soy tu primo-respondió Miguel a gritos—.

In a quiet and neat neighborhood, there lived a very unique family that everyone knew as the Falseglitter. The reason? They had an innate talent for selling expensive items they found in garbage cans.

The family consisted of four very astute members. The father, Roberto Fernandez, was a thin, aged-looking man. His hands, weathered from his hard work in the neighborhood dumpsters, were adept at finding valuables. The mother, Maria Blanco, known as Mari-ita, was a small, stooped woman with unkempt hair and dull eyes. Despite her inoffensive appearance, Maria was always ready to conduct wild negotiations and was an expert at evaluating the quality of discarded objects to give them a second chance. The eldest daughter, María Roberta Fernández Blanco, was very much like her mother. She was an enterprising young woman who followed in her parents' footsteps in business and shared the same passion for restoration and trade. Last but not least, there was the youngest son, Roberto Mario Fernández Blanco, who, unlike his older sister was an exact copy of his father. Curious and observant, he enjoyed helping his family and was always eager to learn more about the family trade.

One day, while the family was digging through one of the neighborhood dumpsters, they discovered an ancient and enigmatic television antenna.

—I think I've found a new treasure! —exclaimed Roberto, the father.

—What have you found, Dad? —asked Roberto, the son.

—It's an old television antenna— explained Maria, the mother—You can make some repairs and sell it at a good price— he continued, while he looked at the piece of metal with admiration.

Excited, they began to search through the brass for the materials they would need to repair it and turn it into something beautiful and functional. They all worked together to accomplish this task.

Father was in charge of carefully polishing and sanding the surface of the antenna. The mother worked on painting it, while the sons added a signal booster.

Once the antenna was as good as new, the father decided to offer it to someone nearby in the neighborhood, a certain Miguel Fernandez, and as soon as he saw him he shouted:

—Cousin. I have a special antenna for you.

But there was a small problem: Roberto loved to call Miguel ''cousin'' because they had the same last name. That, however, did not mean they were related and every time one of the Falseglitter called Miguel by that familiar title, it drove the man crazy.

—I'm not your cousin— Miguel shouted back— I don't want to know anything about your strange negotiations either.

Despite this first failed attempt to sell, the Falseglitter were not discouraged. This time, the brothers decided to act and came up with a ''brilliant idea'': to offer the antenna to their neighbor Laura, assuring her that it could detect infidelities.

The brothers were aware of Laura's jealousy of her handsome husband and believed it would be a sure sale. However, instead of focusing on the sale, they began to invent love stories between Laura's husband and another married neighbor. Unluckily for Maria Roberta and Roberto Mario, Laura's husband arrived just as they were sinking the man's reputation in feces. The husband, furious, pushed them out of the house, leaving the siblings beaten and frightened.

After this second failure, Maria, the mother, decided that she should take matters into her own hands and came up with an even ''brighter'' idea than her husband and children. She determined that the antenna should be offered to a neighborhood drunk, known for always having money on him and not knowing what to spend it on, except alcohol. The drunk, who was completely inebriated, was sitting awkwardly on the street when Maria approached him and called him by his nickname, Cúmbilo. She wanted to know how drunk he was. Cúmbilo smiled back, indicating that he was still sufficiently lucid. Then, Maria took the opportunity to offer him the antenna.

—Are you interested in this special antenna? It only costs two thousand pesos— she said cautiously, making sure to pronounce each word correctly.

The drunkard's eyes seemed intrigued by the high price of the antenna, they went from Maria to the metal, from the metal to Maria and finally, he asked her:

—Why does that thing cost so much?

Maria, in a burst of creativity, replied that the antenna was capable of picking up signals from outer space and allowed him to watch extraterrestrial series. The drunkard, upon hearing that, seemed to enter a deep state of sobriety and opened his eyes like saucers. With trembling hands, he frantically rummaged through his pockets and pulled out three thousand pesos.

—Oh, woman, this is all I have, all right?—he said, slurring his words.

But upon giving the money to Maria, Cúmbilo foolishly fell unconscious in the middle of the street.

This is how the Brillosfalsos family managed to sell the antenna at a much higher price than they had imagined. Although their methods were unconventional, they were shrewd businessmen who always found a way to get what they wanted and take advantage of situations.
