Have you ever despaired of something you've been waiting for but at the last second it actually came to you??? I've experienced it, and it's something positive and makes me happy all day long.
That time was my high school graduation event. The school and student representatives held a formal event on the basketball court, the event was attended by the third graders, representatives from first and second graders, several homeroom teachers and parents. There were many series of events on that day such as singing the farewell song together, announcement of outstanding students and mass farewell event with teachers. Of course it was a sad time considering that three years at school were colored by many stories and ups and downs that we went through with our friends and teachers.
I am one of the blessed students because during the announcement of outstanding students, my name was mentioned as a student who was active in organizations and was academically intelligent. When we all got on the stage, I was very surprised when I saw that there were many other people who also got on the stage and gave a gift to each of the outstanding students except for me. I quickly scanned everyone from below the stage but there weren't many people to give me a gift even my parents didn't bring anything back then. The situation was absolute awkward for me, while everyone was giving a gifts, I just stood there desperately waiting for someone else to come out from the crowd below and come up to give me something.
But nothing else came. Finally I realized one thing. It seemed the outstanding students and the gift givers were making promises to each other before going on stage to give gifts when the announcement was made. I didn't make an agreement with my friends or my parents before going to the stage because I didn't know that I was also mentioned as an outstanding student.
Group photo session between outstanding students has ended. I'm sure their photos will interesting because each of them brought a gift that would bring our photos alive, except for me who just posed for a simple one.
Until the end of the event, no one gave me a gift. Maybe it's just me expecting too much. At that time I just buried that simple wish and forgot about it. But suddenly, a group of band from other school came, they were invited exclusively to enliven the school farewell event but it seems they came too late. Amongst their group, someone of the same age as me came up to me, taking a long time to recall those round facial features, he was Fajar. My primary school friend and childhood friend.
He explained his delay that they were stuck with heavy traffic but somehow managed to arrive at the same time as the event was over. When he was about to perform on the stage, Fajar put his hand into the bag he was carrying and out came a rose with a simple packaging, he gave it to me, "congratulations on your graduation!" he said it with a warm tone and a small smile on his face.
I was a little surprised then took the flower. Delight hormones suddenly pouring out of my feelings. I'm so happy that someone suddenly gave me a gift like this. Although what he gave was only a sprig of rose, the price is even equivalent to the grilled sausages I can meet on the side of the road, but why is this happy feeling of mine like when I was bought a new mobile phone by my parents? I even very rarely met Fajar but he still took his time to buy this flower for me.
It turns out that happiness comes in simplicity. Just give and be sincere. Someday I want to be like Fajar, to be a friend who will give gifts to other friends when they deserve it. Even though the gifts are simple, I'm sure they'll be delighted.
Simple writing is adorable. I really liked it
