Cold Slugs

William was his name at home, where he was believed to be kind and gentle. On the streets he was known as 'Cold Blood', the leader of a criminal gang that was committing more and more misdeeds in the city.

From robbing house trailers to kidnapping politicians for million-dollar ransoms, 'The Nasty Gang' had become a gang both feared and hunted, thanks to the evil genius of an 21-year-old guy.

Willy, as he was also called, always dressed the same: a black tank top, ripped jeans and green Air Jordan sneakers.

In some neighborhoods, the younger kids dressed like him to think they were the baddest boy in town. Willy sometimes took advantage of this idolatry to brainwash them and prepare them to be his next accomplices.

His last big "hire" had been a 15-year-old boy named Sean Ruff. Nicknamed 'Jet', he seemed like he was always in a hurry. he paced back and forth, as if thinking about his next crime. He knew how to use a vast arsenal of weapons at his young age. This helped him within a couple of weeks to rise through the ranks of the 'Nasty Gang' and become the coldest right hand man William ever had.

However, Sean 'Jet' Ruff was still immature and his ego of power blinded him to such an extent that one day after a robbery, he wandered into the territory of the rival gang 'Night Slugs'.

Out of an alleyway came two guys in ski masks and quickly knocked the younger man down, then sedated him and took him away for interrogation.

In an abandoned house on the outskirts of Belmont, lay 'Jet' tied to a chair, as still as he had ever been in his life. When he woke up, he was surrounded by many men. Among them, he was approached by a muscular, bald, bulldog-faced one, barely wearing Bermuda shorts.

"So, kid, you work for Nasty Gang?"

'Jet' remained silent after being asked the same question several times.

Seeing his uncooperative attitude, 'Doom', who was the one who had approached him earlier, and was the head of 'Night Slugs', hit Sean's face several times with a semi-automatic.

"Last warnin', kid. Ya biting the bullet, ya know? Say a word and stay alive; shut up, and they won't never hear from ya again."

Sean grimaced as if he wanted to speak, but instead he forced hard enough that the chair he was sitting in fell over and broke the old wood floor of the house in a desperate attempt to somehow escape.

'Boom' lost his patience and left the place, but not before ordering to annihilate the boy who had already dug his own grave.

The boy's silence made a lot of noise, and everyone in the 'Nasty Gang' decided to declare 'Night Slugs' a war on that very day.

Unlike Willy, 'Doom' used to be more strategic on the street. He would devise various plans with different actors while consuming an entire box of Havanna cigars. His stealthily sinister mind even reached out to officers. There was no good payoff that Belmont's corrupt cops could resist.

'Doom' knew he didn't have as much weaponry as 'The Nasty Gang'. So, he paid the cops to go confiscate several kilos of Willy's drugs that were lying near the city's harbor.

He sent so many officers to the site, that Willy had to ask most of his men to go protect his 'white gold', just what his rival wanted.

Among the places that were left unprotected was the house of the 'Nasty Gang' leader's family.

'Doom', along with some of his men, went to the house to destroy everything there. Once they had Willy's parents and siblings cornered, they made a video call to him.

"Well, well... long time no see such a disgusting face," 'Doom' said aloud with laughter interspersed.

"Trash! Your corrupt cops ain't as many as ma men. All our bullets are going to fall on them, and then on you," Willy replied angrily.

"Say it again," retorted 'Doom' focusing on Willy's panicked relatives.

"William, what is this? Who the hell are you?" cried William's mother as she sobbed when she saw him on the screen.

"Say goodbye to your only family, 'Cold Blood'," sentenced 'Doom' before executing the worst massacre Willy had ever seen in his life.

What followed was a battle in which probably were used almost as many bullets as in a world war. The small town of Belmont was just looted stores, burning streets and the perennial sound of gunfires.

Many thought the Nasty Gang would go with frontal assaults to take down 'Doom', as they used to do with everyone, but 'Cold Blood' ordered his people to use the subway tunnels dug to hunt him down. What was going on above was simply a distraction.

In a matter of three nights, Willy took control of the city. But he knew time was limited. Soon federal police and even the military would arrive to shut it all down.

Desperate to survive, 'Doom' left his last burrow in an armored van a few minutes before dawn. He drove the van himself at full speed, seeking to escape such a hell with his family.

However, Belmont's flames seemed to reach everything, and when the 'Night Slugs' leader least expected it, two police cars were chasing him on either side. One of the windows of one of the patrol cars rolled down: Willy pulled his gun through it, but he didn't shoot at the van itself, but at the tires.

The exit passage of 'Doom' violently rolled over the road.

Willy and his henchmen approached Doom's van. There were him, his parents, wife and children. He was just a baby crying inconsolably in the arms of his deceased mother.

The image paralyzed Willy for a second. Or maybe for a minute. All around him, his subordinates were asking him what he would do with 'Doom', his parents and the baby, still alive. But their leader was not reacting. He compared the baby's cry to his mother's before she died. "Willian, what is this? Who the hell are you?"

Willy took turns between looking at Belmont's chaotic cityscape and the baby several times. Just then he realized there was no hope as he had not only ruined Belmont's present but its future, too.

So many dead innocent people weighed on his head like a tank on a melon.

This realization and the fact that he was already abandoned by his gang, made 'Cold Blood' feel for the first time how his heart was beating and through his whole body flowed hot blood that seemed to reach every corner of his body.

His gun fell to the ground and then he dropped to his knees, placing his hands on the back of his neck, as he cried rivers and the feds announced their arrival on the scene amidst blue sirens.

Although it's not the literary genre I enjoy most, it's an interesting story, full of action. Good thing Willy realises his wrongdoings in the end. Regards

Then you really digged into it😁

Thanks for your visit!

The lives of gangster are mostly violent in nature. Always on the run even when no one is chasing them.

#dreemerforlife

Yeah, it's a lifestyle full of dangers and sadness at the end.
