Really? I have heard about that book before, but never gave it a try. Now you brought it to the table, sometimes I've felt that the more you write, the more curious 'coincidences' take place. Maybe authors re-do their own world without noticing it 😅

You have to read Unamuno. If he never come up in your literature classes (in Spanish), then your teachers are at fault. He is a classic. Borges, for example, acknowledges his literary and philosophical debt to Unamuno.
La Niebla is a slight book. Easy to read. So much of what you think is original in literature today can be traced to Unamuno and even Cervantes.

I think the closest I've been to Unamuno was when I read Julián Marias. He befriended Ortega y Gasset and Unamuno, and often talked about them as his greatest inspiration. I think I will read these authors in the near future.

I'll share with you my long interest in Spanish/Spanish literature. I studied the language through my early school years, took several courses as an undergraduate, and when I went to graduate school I studied comparative literature. My two language specialties were Spanish and German. So, I read a lot of Spanish literature in my life. I'm less familiar with the more recent authors, but the classics are in my heart :)
