Historically, giving one's word was considered a binding contract. Even today, some laws still recognize this. People who don't keep their promises are seen as untrustworthy. Of course, in a world full of lies, trustworthy people are true treasures. But that treasure chest can also be dangerous. I'd think twice before opening it.
