Very compelling, @ricardo993! Is this part of a larger work? It stands on its own very nicely, yet feels like it could also be a chapter in a novel. There's some great detail and character development, and a plot line that is sewn up enough for a short story, yet could also work as a cliffhanger for the next installment. Well done!

Yes, it is an even longer work. As @TheInkWell posts a challenge and I come up with as I go along, I take my time thinking about how to build it.
I think I'll take the links that connect each of the stories so readers understand the stories.
