Tom engaged in an unhealthy competition with Monroe. Monroe however applied himself despite the tantrums thrown by Tom which perhaps served as a edge against him. Thank goodness Monroe saved Tom despite him not deserving it. Tom had the courage to acknowledge Monroe's efforts at his salvation. Good script.
