RE: Sage Advice | The InkWell Weekly Fiction Prompt #5

in The Ink Well3 years ago

Hello @kemmyb Your story has all the elements of a classic love and relationship story. You start in the middle of the story with your character, the husband, calmly assessing his life and relationship with his wife at the lake on his parent's property. They're not overly concerned as they know he usually visits them to think. The main character you present loses his love, being his wife. The reasons you hint at doesn't reveal or suggest any major incident in their lives that caused the breakup. But this is only a guess. He's not raging or yelling, but quietly explaining a minor misunderstanding or "quarrel" as he states.

He's rescued from his thoughts by his dad who imparts fatherly advice on how to maintain a long and loving relationship. The reader can feel the bond between the two as the son patiently listens, then takes his advice.

The ending is satisfactory as your character decided to go visit his wife and make amends so they can live together again and continue their marriage, hopefully with children in their future. I feel he sees the wisdom of his father's advice that they need to talk it out and resolve their issues.

I enjoyed reading your story. Thanks for sharing.
