When Adrian married Adam, she felt like she had made the best decision in her life and she felt really proud of herself, in her opinion she hadn't only married a handsome man but he was the son of a governor which meant her future was covered but after just a few months of marriage, his true colors started showing and she began regretting her decision.
You see, Adam had certain habits that he didn’t disclose to her like smoking, drinking, and clubbing which he knew she wasn’t used to but no matter how much she complained nothing changed in their marriage and she was tagged as the nagging wife.
Adam would often spend long nights clubbing with his friends and even though he wanted to change sometimes because of his wife, he was comfortable in his lifestyle and he would often say to himself “Adrian can never leave me”.
One fateful night after clubbing, he came home to meet Adrian packing her clothes, and in confusion, he asked her;
“what are you doing”
“ I am going to my parent’s house for a few months because I am tired and I need to think” she replied
“well, you aren’t allowed to, I am your husband and this is your home,” he said firmly while taking off his shirt.
A few minutes after he said that he heard a sniffle and Adrian busted into tears which made him run to comfort her, he assured her that things were going to change in the new year as he had certain resolutions he planned on following and for her, that was enough reason to stay.
Months went by with Adrian looking forward to the new year, she would usually assure herself that her husband was trying and things would truly change when the clock struck 12 on the 1st of January and maybe things would truly change, or would they?.
On the 31st of December, she couldn’t keep calm because it was the deadline for all the bad things in her marriage and as they said “new year, new everything”, she spent hours cooking while waiting for her husband and before she could realize it the clock had struck 12 and while it was a new year, her husband was nowhere to be found as usual.
She packed the food she had cooked and put it in the freezer while getting ready for bed in tears, but before lying down on their bed, she check her phone and saw a text from Adam saying “I will be back late” which made her feel sad.
Adam staggered back at about 3 am and climbed into the bed while kissing her goodnight and while she was faking being asleep, she thought to herself “nothing is ever going to change”.

Good story. It is true that sometimes life is not what you want it to be. His wife hopes the new year will be special for her and her husband, but reality does not live up to expectations. The situation is still the same as before

I am sorry for Adrian. Maybe she should learn to follow him to the club. Love what he loves, maybe, this will make her husband love the solitude she loves at home, spending time with her too. My thoughts though. 🥺
Well not everyone can adapt to that lifestyle, but that could work for her.
Hmm! Seriously, no one can change anything but I believe when one really wants to change, they will without being forced. I think both of them should come to a compromise to make it work. Perhaps he loves going to Club and Adrian should probably love what he loved. Nice story Sis.
Yeah both could make a compromise, but his clubbing went along with other bad habits that she can't really deal with.
In the end, no one can force you to change unless you want to.

In curating stories for the Ink Well we keep in mind the manifestations of culture that are expressed by each author. In this case it is startling to hear the husband order the wife to stay. More startling is the fact that she obeys. Tears don't seem to be much of a weapon, or defense. Perhaps that is the message of this author. Things will not change unless Adrian changes them.

It is very normal in my culture for men to be in control after marriage and women to obey which is very sad.
It is also true that nothing can change except Adrian changes them but she most likely won't.

This is sad but for most people, they simply cannot change who they are, even to make a change for the better. I hope that Adrien took it upon herself after that to make a new life for herself to ensure that she received the value and attention that she deserved as a human being. People set January 1st as a date to start afresh, but if they truly want a fresh start, then the only time is now. No need to wait for a future date. !PIZZA !ALIVE
I don't think Adrian will leave, she is in a comfortable space so it will be hard even though there are certain things she doesn't like.

I think this story is a common scenario. It's very hard for many women to leave a situation that is "known" for one that is unknown. The known situation might be hard to take, but the fear of not finding love again, or ending up in a situation that's even worse keeps tormented stuck in the same place. (And yes, I speak from experience! But... I did leave.)
I guess it is easier to stay in a comfortable place than leave, it is very understandable.
It is so sad that women still have to go through marriages like this and I am happy you left.

Adam is a cad and too secure in hold over his wife. I hope she wakes up now that the New Year demonstrated that nothing was going to change. She better get those bags packed and not waste any more time waiting for a change that isn't going to come.
One can only hope that her love of being married to a "governor's son" isn't greater than her love for herself and living a good life.

Most women do in my country.
She is really not happy in that marriage and to an extent she is stuck. I wish couples could fulfill their vows and make the home a haven for their mate. Crying to bed and feeling sad sometimes come up in a marriage but becoming an all night thing cos of keeping late nights, clubbing, drinking and more even cause mental and psychological problems 😂
She isn't happy but she does not know how to leave, and this is sad because it happens a lot in marriages.
