I think it is interesting how the English translation compares to the original Spanish. In Spanish, the story sounds poetic and flows like the water of a gurgling brook. The English version is more matter of fact and flows like water through a well designed canal. I think your translation nicely demonstrates some of the differences between the two languages. Spanish is a romance language, so it's rather fitting that its exposition contains the natural flourishes and rhythms of that illustrous tongue. English is rooted in Germanic languages, which are more technical, precise, and geometrical. Just the facts, ma'am.
