"On the distant shore of San Narval, you will find the family that remains for you. When I pass away, go there with your son to begin a new life."
Those were Luca's grandfather's last words on his deathbed. Shortly after, his father Gregg began to repair the old boat lying in the harbor of San Veronica, determined to keep the promise he had made to his father. He set out to find the last members of his family to give Lucas, his only son, a better life on the island of San Narval.
A long time ago, when he was just an 8-year-old boy, he, Gregg, and his father crossed the sea to move to the island of San Veronica. Father and son started a new life in the place they called home; Gregg grew up as a fisherman like his father. When he came of age, he met an island girl, married her, and had a son. Unfortunately, Gregg lost his wife during childbirth… Just like at the beginning, all that remained was a father and his son.
The family consisted of a father, a son, and their grandfather. They fished for a living and for fun, living in peace by the seashore for 8 years until the grandfather fell ill... Now the story repeats itself: a man and his son plan to cross the sea in search of the promised land where they can start a new life.

In open waters, heading toward the horizon, sailing toward a better life, father and son navigate calm waters under an incandescent sun; nothing and no one will stop them from reaching their destination. Meanwhile, they conversed:
—Dad, what is San Narval like? —asked little Lucas.
While his father had his hands on the ship's wheel, Lucas thought of a question to pass the time. His father tried to remember his childhood, but couldn't.
—I don't remember. Your grandfather took me very far from there when I was your age. I only know that I was born there and that your grandparents met in that place. —Gregg said sadly.
Lucas felt much curiosity about the future that awaited him on the new island, and at the same time, he could notice a coincidence with the old stories his grandfather used to tell him.
—So you had a life very similar to Grandpa's because you met Mom in San Veronica. —he said innocently.
Gregg yearned for the island where he grew up but found no sense in living in a place where he had suffered so many losses. He fondly remembered the stories his father told him, thus feeling hopeful.
—Yeah, it's funny… We both went through the same thing. —he said nostalgically.
Little Luca constantly looked toward the ship's stern, his gaze lost on the horizon, in the direction of his former home.
—So… does that mean I'm going to go through the same thing? —he asked innocently.
—What do you mean? —said Gregg, puzzled.
—When I'm an adult and have a son, will I have to go back to San Veronica? —doubtfully.
That innocent question hit hard, as for the first time, the father worried about the future of his firstborn.
—I… I don’t know; I hope not. —he said, concerned about the future.
Gregg let go of the wheel for a moment, moved closer to his son, put a hand on his shoulder, and said:
—Listen, son… Just because your grandfather's life and mine coincided in some ways doesn't mean you'll live the same. Destiny makes us navigate through mysterious waters, and no one can guarantee what that journey will be like.
—Your grandfather used to tell me he hoped you would follow in our footsteps, but I sincerely tell you to do what you feel is right. You are just a child, but I believe you will be a good man no matter where you find yourself. —he said confidently.
Lucas looked into his father's eyes and said from the bottom of his heart:
—I would like to keep fishing with you, Dad. That makes me very happy.
Gregg felt deeply moved, enough for tears to well up in his eyes.
—If that’s what you want, it will be a pride to fish by your side.
The next day, at 9 AM, they arrived at the port of San Narval, an island already forgotten or never before seen by its visitors. Upon touching land, Gregg looked at his son to give him a piece of advice:
—Listen, son, behave well when you meet your cousins. We need to make a good first impression.
It was time to face the family that had been left behind; Gregg's mind was a jumble of nervousness. He hadn't even thought of the right words to break the news about his father's passing.
But it was something that had to be done; reuniting with family was the best for Luca.
He walked along the beach observing the sea, turned to look at his father, and said:
—And where are we going to live now, Dad? —he asked disheartened.
That was another concern for Gregg: not being welcomed on the island or by his family. At that moment, he could only follow his own advice.
—One thing at a time, son. I will take care of that when we reunite with the family. For now, just enjoy the view.
—Okay.
The horizon that father and son looked at from that shore kept them united, no matter what happened in life.

Your story had potential. it would have benefited from further development to flesh out the relationship between father and grandfather, and grandfather and grandson, and the reasons why they had not returned to San Narval sooner eg: while the grandfather was still alive. The intro was a little confusing as the grandson's name changed from Jake to Lucas which immediately reminded me of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children where the MC, Jake, loses his grandfather, whose dying wish is for him to go to the island. Of course, your story is different, and inspiration can be gleaned from anywhere, but it is better to proofread and edit, and at least ensure that your characters names do not change during your story ;-)
Thank you for pointing out that editing error that I overlooked.
Everyone at that point will be feeling the nervousness that Lucas is feeling after the death of his grandfather. He was not really sure what the world holds ahead in the future
