Kuli swims all alone to betterment

Kuli sat on the bunk while Davida stood opposite her direction; Davida said,” Kulii, my friend, this is the best opportunity we would have.” Kulii looked down, nodded her head horizontally as if she had pitied herself, and replied,” What if we got caught”?

Davida replied to this frantically this time and looked dead serious,” In this jail, it is only execution we haven't faced, we have fought a riot in which we led and were caught, we have fought for our life and survived worst in two years of being here, what can scare you again Kulii”?

This time, Kulii was convinced truly that she was the toughest in the jail since she came in second to Davida. They fought the Marshall and gang leaders of different female cells they have been sent to individually or as a tag team and looking at this proposal, it seems she has nothing to lose.

She put on her former self and called the name most people know her to be in jail”. D. Kulii”! She screamed as usual when hailing himself. Davida knew she was successful in convincing Kulii about the jailbreak and Davida was smirking this time around.

Nobody said a word, even the warder did not move towards Kulii’s cell because she was known by all that Kulii was mentally drained and sometimes she displayed a touch of Psychosis as they all believed but she always knew what she was doing and had to pretend so that she will not be focused on as she knew it was pain that the warder can use to subdue any riot and she had adapted to pain since the excruciating incident that brought her to Sambisa correctional center.

Kulii asked Davida with inspirational look, “Davida, how are we going to do that”? Then Davida replied by telling her that she has a poison which they will take and die but only to wake up five hours later, and as usual, they would be taken to the morgue and they can find their way from there but the problem is that they have to swim out of river Niger which surrounds there and also trek pass the Sahara desert which follows and then they are back on the Graceland where they were sentenced from.

Hearing Graceland triggers Kulii, who thinks she would not be opportune to see Graceland again. She stood up and held Davida's shoulder and asked how legit her poison was, and Davida told her one hundred percent.

The next day, which was D-day, came along, and they injected the poison before going for breakfast, as they were eating, convulsions held them, and they died instantly. The warders were surprised as none of the prisoners from the history of the jail had died in such a manner, but who cares? It was crazy for Kulii and her friend; maybe someone poisoned their food due to their troublesome behavior and the threat they embodied, staying alive there. After one hour, the doctor came, and they were confirmed dead. Then, they were pushed to the morgue and kept there.

Later in the afternoon, because there was no space again in the correctional center as it was crowded and after the doctor’s report, they called their family and told them about their loss and confirmed they were to be buried there as the rule of the country stays but they were not buried but thrown in the river so fish and crocodiles can feed on them but luckily enough for both of them it was just two minutes to the wake-up time so they start to swim beneath the water and as fast as they can before the aquatic wildlife gets at them and within a twinkle of an eye they are in the Sahara desert. They trek through the desert for a week without eating and drinking anything as both of them have what was pushing them through.

For Davida, it was her mother who she promised that she would come to see as soon as she was free knowing well that it was because of her that she went downtown to the casino to play and won which made a fight break out and she was arrested and before she knew anything, was sentenced to jail as it gambling is her way of life while Kulii was set up by her fiance who called her a week to their wedding that he wants to surprise her and on getting to his house she saw him standing outside the door and told her to go inside that he wants to put surprise in her car's booth and he asked her to entered and have a sit.
It is not up to twenty minutes when the police knocked and asked who owns the car Mercedes Gle 450 which was Kulii’s car she was asked to come to open the booth and it was a surprise for her to see a strange suitcase that was supposed to be the surprise containing cocaine in her booth and she was arrested without delay and what pains her the most is that he was nowhere to be found so Kuli was tagged a junkie.
This was why she was sentenced to Sambisa Correctional Center, and it was the main reason she acted like she had Psychosis.

Kulii decides to fight for her life, knowing that her fiance wants her life because how can he claim to love her and do such great harm to them a week before their wedding that was one of the things that made her not lose hope in life.

Not that she wants revenge, but she just wants him to know that he is now a ghost to her,, and she doesn't even care to know the reason behind the betrayal.

They slept in cold weather at night and trekked in the heated atmosphere during the day. It was unbearable but they had to just survive.

Luckily for them, they made it to the Graceland, and their freedom is intact, so they decide to change identity, telling their parents about their escapades and that they have never come back or called since the sentence and the demises were what should be told to anyone who asked about them or saw someone like them.

So they start a new life and leave the past for the past tense. They hustled and rented an apartment together and moved on from that and it is going well. Kulii and Davida started a real estate business, which Kulii has ideas on as it was her specialty, and they used the money left from Davida’s gambling to invest and made a big one out of it and they continue to progress. One afternoon, they were coming home from shopping and saw Phillip, her ex-fiance, as they met at the entrance of the shopping mall where he was with Kuli’s best friend, Louisiana.

Their eyes meet, and Kulii immediately hints to Davida about their plan to act as if they hadn't met or known them before. Kuli has no plan to fight back or get herself into complications; she believes that karma is great and that leaving them as strangers will hunt them for the rest of their lives.

They called her name, and she did not answer; then her friend Louisiana touched her shoulder, and she looked back and asked, “Please, who are you, and what can I do for you “?

While Davida asked Kuli in reply as both Phillip And Louisiana opened their mouths in agape mannerisms,” Do you know them “?
Then Kuli quickly takes her eyes off both Philip and Louisiana,” I have not seen them before in my life, and I am very surprised they are looking as if they saw a ghost”.

Both Philip and Louisiana could not say a word but watched as Kuli and Davida walked into a Ford Jeep vehicle they brought and drove off. Kuli and her friend Davida laughed their ass out as they made a fool of Philip and Louisiana then Kuli made a statement,” What do they think will happen to me, do they think I was going to sink in the jail, I am not sorry to swim my life out and to be freed again”? She answered herself in a happy tone.

They later hear that Philip went to Kuli's parents to make inquiries but was given no news result. He lived in worry, fearing that Kulii would come for him, but unknown to him, Kuli's life revolved around for the better. Philip and Louisiana were caught a year later trafficking cocaine and were sent to the same Sambisa correctional center.

Kuli and Davida moved to another country, got married to a different and responsible man, and they did Betsy from each other's wedding and lived happily ever after.
