The broken heart

"It was all Chike's fault ma, I know nothing about it. It was Chike who came up with the idea that we should prank Mr Nonso because he scolded him", Emeka said, pointing at Chike in the principal's office.

Chike stood numb in the principal's office after a disaster erupted in the chemistry lab during a practical. His head bent as he couldn't say a word due to fear. Chike was the practical rep for SS1 science. He was entrusted with the role of arranging the chemicals and equipment for the preparation of practicals.

Emeka was Chike's first friend when they resumed classes for the senior secondary level but Emeka has been known for his troublesome lifestyle since junior class. Mr Nonso had earlier scolded Emeka for causing rancor in the classroom before going to the laboratory for the practical. He had vowed to take revenge on him for disgracing him in the classroom.

As they were walking to the laboratory, Emeka was asking Chike about some chemicals and what would happen if they were mixed together. Chike innocently replied to him, taking his time to explain to Emeka, thinking he was asking for knowledge's sake.

As the practical was on, Emeka carried two different chemicals and poured them into the beaker, and a smoke was seen shortly after fire erupted, which caused the students to run out of the laboratory, including Emeka, leaving Chike to save the situation. Chike was dumbfounded after hearing the accusation Emeka passed on to him knowing fully well that he was not involved in the plan.

"I take the blame ma, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to cause any harm", Chike explained.

"You disappointed me, you're supposed to know better, you put the lives of all your mates in danger", the principal lamented.

Emeka was happy that he got away with it, his supposed plan didn't work out, but at least he caused a commotion. Chike was removed as the rep when the principal demanded a more capable student. Chike was loved by his classmates because of his calmness and intelligence. Many of them were not pleased as he was removed as the rep, and were wondering why Chike took the fall when it wasn't his fault. Emeka didn't see his actions as inappropriate, but since then, Chike has distanced himself from him as he doesn't want to be implicated again. Emeka began to lose face in the class, many students avoided him and didn't want to associate with him. Even though Chike took the blame but he was still loved nevertheless.

People like Emeka should be avoided. There's a saying, "A bad friend is more dangerous than a poisonous snake."

Taking that kind of blame is so kind of him. I would never. I wonder what must have been going on in Chike's mind when he decided to take responsibility, knowing well that it wasn't his fault.

That's why it's good to choose friends patiently. Emeka isn't a good friend

Emeka isn't worthy to be called a friend irrespective of his relationship with Chike. Thank God that the incident didn't go farther than this. It could have resulted into a more dangerous result at another time and that's why we need to check our lives if there's any "Emeka" in it and do away with them.

That's the right thing to do

Its painful how the wrong people get punished for something while the main culprits are free. That's why it's important to choose your friends wisely, not everyone who smiles with you has good intentions. Emeka might think he won by escaping the punishment, but respect is something that goes a long way.

What happened to Chike was very unfortunate. Emeka should have paid for what he did, but this happens a lot in real life. Your story shows us that there are still good people who sacrifice for the others.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Good day.
