A dream fulfilled

Greetings!

Daniel, a friend of mine that I met when I was 100l in the university, has now become someone I would never imagine him to be in life.

Although he was known for his brilliancy in the department of agricultural extension, no one would think he would be capable of becoming an agricultural person who will be planting and rearing animals.

When we were in school, Daniel was not as strong as the rest of us and anytime we were to go for practice on the school farm, he would not be able to do anything. He always relies on his friends to help him with his own portion of the practical which in most cases we used to do for him without any complaints.

And since we have known him not to be too strong for the farm practical, we used to rally round him. Although he knows more of the theory than the practical.

On a particular, while.we were working on the farm, I and Daniel were having this kind of a deep conversation and it's in the conversation that I asked him saying,

“Daniel, what have you come to do in this department?” “I have come to learn farming and also to pursue my dream,” he answered. “Your dream?” I asked. “Yes, my dream,” he answered again. “What's that your dream?” I asked. “My dream is to have a big farm, both for planting and rearing animals where people will be working for me and get paid,” he answered. “That's a very great dream and I love it for you.” I said. “How do you intend to bring this dream into reality?” I asked. “I don't know, but I will pursue it with everything within and without me and I'm very sure that with time, it will come to live,” he replied. “Wow! That's great, God will see you through,” I said.

So, after this our conversation, we left the school farm and went to our different hostels, but on getting to my hostel room, I was pondering on what I and Daniel discussed on the school farm and how he's going to go about it as he has not strength or physical ability to do all what he has mapped out as his dream.

However, not quite long, we all graduated from the university and on the convocation day, when the award for the best students of different categories were given out. Daniel swooped almost all the awards leaving a few for the rest of us in the department and faculty.

So, after the convocation ceremony, we went for service and that's the beginning of our separation and also, that's when life began to happen to everyone of us.

There's a day after years of leaving the university that I began to think about Daniel and his vision. That day, I decided to call him but his number was not reachable. It's so painful that I could not reach him on his line, but I was so sure he's fine.

So, I continued with my own life and my teaching profession as I have been employed as an agricultural science teacher in one of the private colleges in town.

However, on a particular, while listening to one of the local radio stations at the my place of work, I heard a voice from the studio of the so called radio and the voice sounds like that of Daniel, who was being invited to come and talk to people about farming, the presenter of the program later introduced him by his name and also as an established agriculturist who have excel in his chosen field.

So, when Daniel began to share his experience right from the start to when we were both together and till when he was on air, I was moved with emotion and love as he mentioned my name as part of those who made his dream come to pass.

After he had finished with the on-air interview, he was asked to call out his number which he did accordingly, but before he called out his number, I was so prepared with my writing materials readily available to write out his phone number.

People around me were just watching me and laughing at me with my actions that day.

After I had left the school, I called him in the evening and on hearing my voice, he quickly identified me and called me by my name. He was so happy to hear from me and even asked where I am. I told him I'm at Ibadan and working as a teacher. He asked if we could see each other on the weekend and I told him yes.

When it's the weekend, I went to see him and what I saw in his place was the actualization of what he had dreamed of. I asked him how he did it, but with a smile, he responded and said, it wasn't easy for him ab initio, but that with God on his side, he was able to do more than expected and since that day, I have always trust in my big dream as well and getting in touch with him has really improved me tremendously.
