There's these two friends, Ade and Ola. Ade and Ola started their friendship when their parents were living at the same house as neighbors at No, 2 oke street, Olorunsogo, Ibadan.
During their stay together, it's their parents that started the friendship before it's being transferred to the children.
Although the two families have other children, Ade and Ola were the closest among the other children of the two families.
So, for this reason, Ade and Ola were known and always referred to as twin brothers as they mostly do their things in common.
Although I'm not part of their families, I got to know both of them at school. We both started together at Baptist High School, Ibadan. So, their doings together got me confused as I thought they were of the same parents.
Thinking that they were of the same parents led me to asking them saying,
“Ola, are you and Ade twins brother?” But when Ola would reply to me, he said, “yes, we are.”
So, after he had told me that they were brothers, I accepted as it wouldn't have been possible for anyone to fathom who these two really were as they were both known for doing things together and since I have not been to their house, I wouldn't know if Ola was lying or not.
However, as I turned back to go my own way, Femi, a friend of mine who know both Ola and Ade called me to a side and said,
“Don't mind him ooo, they are not twin brothers but friends.”
When I heard this I was shocked and surprised as to why Ola was lying to me in the first place. Not only that, I was also surprised as to how they were not twins but so close.
These two were so close that people including myself used to be jealous of them.
However, when we got to SS2, both of them had their differences and this led to a serious conflict between them, not only the duo, this serious conflict also brought about a strained relationship to the two families that they were exchanging words with.
Although none of us knew what went wrong, we later got from a reliable source that it's Mary, a SS2 student, who caused them to be fighting each other which was passed on to their families.
From the reliable source, we were told that both Ola and Ade were interested in Mary the damsel of the school but it's Ade that first of all approached her before Ola came.
Also, from the reliable source, we were told that Ola who came to Mary after Ade was the one Mary loved and not Ade.
So, seeing this, Ade felt betrayed thinking Ola shouldn't have gone to Mary when he knew he had at first gone to her and this was what caused the issue and the strain relationship between both.
When I heard all these, I was so disgusted as to why and how young guys like this would be fighting dirty over a lady and not only this, the way their family handled the issue was also embarrassing and shameful to me.
In my own view I thought both Ola and Ade should have been called to each other by the families and settle the matter amicably maybe by both letting go of the lady and moving on with their lives but the reverse was the case as both families leaned towards their sons.
It was a terrible issue and I was so sad to have seen such a lovely and robust relationship between two friends and families to have gone south as in the case of two blossom and childhood friends.
Furthermore, after years of what had happened and after we have graduated from our secondary, I met with Mary in one of my friends wedding ceremony and it's at the ceremony that we both talked extensively reflecting on the past and when we got to the issue of what happened between the trio of Ola, Ade and her, she said Ade was the one at fault as she had told him when he came that he only loved Ola and not him even when Ola had not come to her, but that Ade would not even listen to her as he persisted.
She said when she had told Ade this, Ade vowed that he would not let anyone have any relationship with her except him and that this was what led to her going for Ola the first day he approached him.
It's after this that I asked her if she's still with Ola, but her response was that they were no more together, saying not that they had issues, but because their genotype did not match to be husband and wife.
