Might wanna put this in play while reading... Adds to the atmosphere of using headphones.
He was in love.
He could feel it the moment her message came through and he smiled instantly, then in the way he got angered and frustrated because the network stopped him from answering immediately.
He knew instantly when her roommate sent him a video of the new clothes and jewelry she got online but he could only pay attention to her, who briefly appeared in the small corner of the video.
He was in love...
And that was bad.
It was bad because he had just come out of a relationship and had swore to not get into one until 2 years past.
It was worse because she too also just came out of a relationship and definitely wasn't looking for another one.
Yet he liked her—and he liked to think, she likes him.
The smiles, the stares and the blushes, that couldn't be normal... Could it?
It was a messy situation. One in which his close friend, with the barest of details, has warned him to steer clear of.
Yet everyone knows love cares not for timelines, doesn't bother itself with allegiances and incidents and laughs in the face of warnings.
He wasn't one to fall in love. Granted he's dated a few, had fun with a lot and thrown the word *love * around here and there.. but falling in it?
Now that's a whole new feeling, it felt exhilarating and scary.
He sat on his bed at 6:00 in the evening, looking at the phone, at the message and praying for the network to work so his message could go through before she went off again.
Because she usually did go off that's one hobby that annoyed and allured him.
Granted, it was exam period, he had exams too, but he was online—as online as the Internet allowed him to be—but online still.
A message came through.
How did this even happen, didn't you just break up?
It was from Rebecca, his friend who's privy of his new found feelings.
He thought back to how he and his new found crush met, actually by accident as he was trying to get with her roommate.
A simple venture of promiscuity on his part, it was unsuccessful because of her involvement, yet her involvement changed everything.
They spoke, gossiped, laughed at the roommates expense and even subtly flirted. Five good hours of talking and he left feeling more satiated than any sexual involvement has made him feel.
It was like eating. When having a bite of a delicious meal, he was filled and just like anybody who eats good food, they always get hungry for more.
And hungrily he came, again and again, wanting to talk to her, see her, know her. Then he found out about her boyfriend, he was stumped.
Till he knew about her boyfriend, then he was heartbroken.
To him, the fact that a girl so wonderful could be in love with someone so wretched was proof of the wickedness of this world.
He consoled her during the tough times, and during the heartbreak, then she changed.
He knew what it was, she was logging off romance and all its aspects as she kept on thinking of the boy and then of herself and then of nothing at all.
His window was closing. He was being friendzoned.
He had just broken up, although she didn't know he was even dating. She had just broken up and her heart didn't want to even hear about the word dating.
Her roommate knew about his break-up and about hers but didn't know about his feelings for her.
He also wondered how the roommate would feel after their own past. It's not easy looking at your friend dating a man who you had sex with even if the sex happened before your relationship.
His head hurt, he wasn't one to usually think like this before going into a relationship.
He normally went on vibes and feelings, for things of the heart weren't meant to be constrained.
The difference between previous times and now is that now he's no longer worrying about only his heart.
He's worrying about hers too.
His thoughts spiraled, he wondered and worried and internally wailed.
The sound of his ringtone made him realize he had actually closed his eyes in thought and it opened it to her call dp.
Without even thinking he picked.
Hi ____
"I messaged something and you didn't reply, what're you up to? Busy?"
Too busy for you? Never.
"Then reply."
She hung up the phone and he took a moment to re-listen to her voice in his head.
He loved it.
He loved her.
He had fallen in love badly.
At that moment nothing else mattered to him.
All that mattered was how to make a funny yet cool reply to the perculiar question.
"Do you think one can use milk and boil rice?”
