Moyo: Time and chance mystical experience

in The Ink Well2 months ago (edited)
Moyo found himself lying in a fenced compound in a mystical world. Everything in that world looked almost the same with the real world but he noticed few differences... The people he saw there were like normal human beings but they had tails and walked on legs. He wanted to hide but one of them caught sight of him and...

In a small village called Lou, the people were poor but still lived happily with the little they made from their small businesses. They were mostly fishing business and farming since their village is surrounded mostly by water.

Moyo is a native of Lou and a young fisherman. His father had died mysteriously while he was fish hunting when Moyo was 12, Moyo lived with his mother who traded the sea animals for money.

"Please don't be late today, I'll go to collect my money from my debtors later in the afternoon." "Alright mom, I've heard but I intended to visit Hoderi so that he'll teach me some of his fishing skills" Moyo replied. "It's okay, try not to stay long." His mum said as she moved into the house.
Hoderi was the best fisherman in the village and everyone knew him very well because he always caught big fishes and lots of other sea animals with his amazing skills. Some fishermen envied him.

Moyo had always had plans to leave the village in search for greener pastures. He would work hard so that he will make extra income to save for his future trip.
One fateful day, while Moyo was still in his canoe preparing to leave the sea and head back home, while he was still packing his tools and arranging his net, he caught sight of something glittering below the water. It looked fascinating and Moyo wanted to know what it was.

He dipped his hand into the water to reach for it but his hands didn't reach the glittering material. He thought hard what it could be, "could it be a giant Peeble or quail or what?" The question ran through his mind. "If I can get this thing out, I will certainly make as much money or even more than I ever wanted" he said to himself.
The more he looked at the shiny material, the more fascinating it looked in his eyes. "This might be my one and only opportunity in this life, I have to do this" he said and immediately jumped into the water to reach for it. The shiny material was like a long pole that extended to the depth of the water. When Moyo tried pulling it out from the water, he couldn't; it was too heavy. He kept trying and was going deeper into the water until he found himself in another world.
Moyo found himself lying in a fenced compound in a mystical world which he couldn't explain how he go there. When he looked around, there were no water the whole place was dry and sunny. Everything in that world looked almost the same with the real world but he noticed few differences, the vehicle and houses he saw there were very beautiful, there were nothing like that in the world where he came from. He walked round the place where he found himself looking transfixed like he was looking for something he lost, no one was around at that time. A lot lot of thoughts were running through his mind; he was restless.
Hours passed by before the owners of the house where he was came back. He was astonished and became frightened. The people he saw there were like normal human beings but they had tails, walked on legs and looked so beautiful. He wanted to hide but one of them caught sight of him and raised an alarm. The people of the mystical world examined him closely and saw that he wasn't one of them so they immediately took him to their chief.
"This same thing that killed your father and it wants to kill you, I wouldn't want to let you go alive but if I kill you, your mother will die as well, she's already very worried about you right now. I will pardon you and send you back to where you came from but you have to swear on my throne never to tell anyone about what you saw because the day you tell someone about it, you will die". The chief told him. "I swear, I won't tell anyone, just spare my life and let me go, please" Moyo cried. The chief said some unclear words which Moyo didn't understand and stretched out his scepter towards him.

Moyo was lying on the seashore, many people gathered around him thinking he was dead until Moyo coughed and woke up. The locals said they saw his body floating on the water so they thought he was dead they had to carry his body to the shore.

Moyo remembered everything but it was like a dream. When they asked Moyo what happened, he would frame up one cock and bull story to tell them.

Years passed, Moyo was in his old age, he told his mystical experience to the children of his village who had gathered in his compound at night to listen to stories. However Moyo didn't live to see the light of a new dawn.

Sort:

Moyo was smart not to tell the story till his old age, he would have died as a young man

Very smart indeed
