“Monica, please pass me my phone?” Diana, sat in the front of a table with a cup of coffee on the table.
“Alright, big sister”,
Monica stretched her hands, picked up the phone that was placed on the couch she was sitting on. She stretched her hands, trying to pass the phone to her elder sister.
“You don't have manners, right? Is that how you were supposed to pass the phone to me?” Diana was so furious, just like someone who has been infuriated by someone before.
“I'm sorry, big sister. I thought I will pass it straight to you while sitting”, Monica replied keenly as she stood up, smiling at her already angry sister.
“Big sister, is anything the problem?” Monica asked.
“Nothing, I'm just not happy with this Zoom meeting they ask me to carry out in my working place, coupled with our mother's health. I was supposed to take care of my mum this weekend and even take her to the hospital for treatment”, Diana took her cup of coffee as she sipped.
“Oh, big sister, you are right, but your meeting is important. And better still, why can't you tell your boss about our mother's health and see if he can give you some break just to carry our mum to the hospital. You know his health is deteriorating”, Monica sorrowfully replied.
“He will not listen to me”. Her boss has been a busy type who is difficult to talk to. To take permission has been a problem for the staff of the company.
It's noon and a time for the meeting. Diana got prepared and opened the Zoom app. She logged into the app with the unique password she was given. The meeting started at exactly 12:12 PM. Everyone started listening as his boss spoke elaborately on some points affecting the company's growth. He spoke for several minutes, after which he introduced a business tycoon who has perfect knowledge on how a company should be run without or with fewer risks. He advised and lectured the staff. His lectures started from the staff as he was hitting a vital point related to Diana's post. Everyone was made to mute their mic so as not to interfere with the speaker's message.
“Before I move to the management aspect, is there anyone with one or two or more questions?” The speaker said as he observed for two minutes for someone to signify with an emoji.
Diana raised her hands with an emoji as the speaker ordered her to unmute herself.
Diana spoke elaborately as she asked three serious questions that left the speaker with no words. After a few minutes, the speaker answered her keenly.
“Are you clear with my answer?” The speaker asked.
“Yes Sir, I'm clear”, Diana responded.
“Big sister, mum's condition has risen. I think we need to take her to the hospital”, Monica ran in with tears in her face.
“What! Oh no, not now, mum”, Diana shouted hastily. She rushed down to her mother's room, carrying her laptop with her so as not to miss the lecture/seminar.
Everyone kept quiet as well as the speaker without saying a word. Diana thought her network was bad and wanted to log out before hearing the speaker's voice. “Let's continue”. This gave her a little relief.
"Diana, please, I'm fine. Don't mind your sister. I told you I can manage myself ", her mum said, pretending to be fine.
“I know your sickness has got worse. Maybe I should take a loan from the loan app to take you to the hospital since we are still in the middle of the month. I need to get you treated, mum”, Diana cried out while Monica had already been running down in tears.
Diana was unable to hold it but burst into tears. She cried loudly seeing her mum even though her mum was saying she was fine. She knew she was not fine.
She managed to finish up with the meeting, which lasted for an hour. It was supposed to go more than that, but no one knows why.
Diana immediately closed her laptop and rushed her mum to the hospital.
“Please, bring mum's clothes when you are coming”, Diana spoke to her younger sister on the phone.
The next day, her mum's health had calmed down a bit, and she managed to rush to work. “Please, take care of mum until I'm back. I will not waste time at work today”, Diana informed her younger sister.
Everyone was looking at Diana strangely. She got confused, coupled with the way they were all greeting her just as if something had happened to her.
“Diana, please, see me in my office”, her boss ordered with a strange look. The way she observed her boss's look was different from usual.
"OK Sir”, Diana answered.
“I will give you a leave to take care of your mum and also will send you some money for her bills and welfare”, Diana was confused about how her boss got to know about her mum's condition.
“But, Sir, I had never for once, discussed this with you before now. So, how did you get to know about it?” Diana was surprised.
“You left your mic unmute as we all listened to your conversation with your younger sister and your sick mum. I'm so sorry, but then you did not tell me anything about your mother's condition. You thought I would not listen to you, right?”
“Yes, Sir and thank you very much, Sir”, Diana replied.
All her coworkers greeted her as she left her boss's office. Some.said, "please, take care of your mum and yourself”.
Thank God she forgot to mute her microphone.
