“I was not expecting you here”, Timi was so sad seeing Kola who was the best in his class.

Kola is a young, kind looking boy who the school always calls for any outing. He's always attending debate and has been outstanding in all his outings.

“Please, my boy is sick and will not be able to come for the debate which is coming up on t
Tomorrow”, Kola's mum sadly said. It was not too nice on the reputation Kola has built, and was just too good for other students.

“Kola's mum just left my office a few minutes ago”, Mr David, Kola's class teacher, said. He was somehow sad with his voice.

“Hope there's no problem, Sir”, Timo asked alongside others. Kola has always been around when it comes to the aspect of debate or any forms of outings. He has been so consistent and wanted to maintain that consistency.

“He's sick and would not be able to make it tomorrow”, Their class teacher sadly opened up.
“Oh no! We will not excel in this case. I wished he was around to make us smile and to make us maintain our record”, One of the classmates said.
“That's your opinion, but to me, I'm happy that he's not around. At least it will make me showcase my talent”, Timi said within himself.

Their class teacher looked around the class and appointed Timi to replace Kola. “You are going to replace him. Just make sure you stand out and don't let us down”, he said. There was this great happiness that evolved from his face. He was so excited, more than the happiest being on earth.
“I will not let you down and will make my school stand out like usual” Timi excitement was showing on his face forgetting the fact that Kola was sick.

“Just don't let the school down and don't let me down as well”, I promised my class teacher, as there was an evolving joy emerging from Timi's heart straight to his face.

That night, Timi did not sleep. He was busy studying and trying hard to beat the opposing schools. When it was the next day, Timi was up early and got prepared. He was the first to get to the school just because of the debate.

“Are you prepared and good to go?” His class teacher asked.
“With full benefits, Sir”, he replied with all seriousness.

“I have prepared in total”, that was the best answer as he had prepared ready to go after some hours from that period.

“What are you doing in school?” A teacher in the staff room asked.
Timi was passing by, but that statement alone captured his heart. He walked towards the staff room and saw nothing.

After a few minutes, his class teacher came back to the class with plenty of smiles on his face. His smile was just too glaring that something was very sweet in him.

Timi was backing the class. He turned back and saw Kola,
“What are you doing here? Were you did not suppose to be receiving treatment by now?” I'm anger, Time asked. His way of asking would show that show as very angry.

"I'm better now", Kola said reluctantly with a smile emerging from his face. Although, he thought he would not be picked any longer.

"Now the debate will fall back to the right person", the class teacher said. Hearing this statement, Timi got infuriated and left the class.
"It's unfair Sir”, Timi said to his class teacher.
“You all should cast that statement from you”, the class teacher opened up.
"But it's unfair Sir. I have been chosen and now being dropped after a lot of expectations*, Timi's anger was raging and it was showing deep down on his face.

Kola was set for the exams while others followed as supporters. The first speaker spoke so well, and everyone clapped.
The second and the third and so on. When it's Kola's turn, he walked majestically into the stage. His starting points dropped his points. He began to throw out words that brought a deep shame to the school.
At the end, Kola came out to be second. It was a poor performance. Kola. The class teacher was so shamed to even look at face after turning

In the debate, Kola who was the champion came out to second place. It was a shameful performance.
"I would have performed better than this" , Timi said.
"I'm sorry", The class teacher said as he began to feel sober.

Hello, @stone4

What a trick, and a disappointment for Timi! Of course, second place isn't dishonorable. Well, a lesson in humility.

I liked your story.

Greetings.

Very great lesson indeed

Timi worked hard and believed in himself, staying up all night to prepare. Losing his chance felt unfair. This shows how sudden decisions can crush someone’s effort and hurt their confidence deeply.
Thank you @stone4 for sharing this wonderful story.

What an interesting story! Greetings!

Thanks a lot

I'm sure Kola's illness affected him in one way or the other. The fact that he showed up for his school inspite of his condition attests to the fact that he's quite a hardworking student.

Hmmm .... That's truly a fact.

It's unfortunate that sometimes opportunity bypasses the people who deserve it and goes to the people who don't deserve it. Poor Timi.

Timi is envious of Kola's position as the best. This is not constructive, he should rather aspire to be like him or even better. I'm sure in that way, he'll simply shine through.
