"Trusting people is not what you are supposed to do, And also taking promises to heart will be a disappointment if your uncle failed to fulfill his promise" Joan said to her friend Kelvin calmly. "I remembered when I lost my father, my father's brothers promised to help my mom, train us in school and also provide for my siblings and I our needs. But at the end what happened? Hmmm they were still the same people that sent our Mom out of our father's house after a year, saying our mother never gave birth to a male child that was the moment that changed everything in our life, , then you Kelvin that lost your mother when you were still a child and you just lost your father not up to three months now if i may ask who will stand for you the moment your uncle disappoint you?" . She said to Kelvin reluctantly. Kelvin was queit for a while and he said her "my uncle will not fail me since i am a boy and and the only child, certainly i will inherit my father's properties". He said boosting. "You think so ? I pray your uncle fulfill all his promises", she said and smiled.
Nine months after, Harrison, Kelvin uncle visited him , telling him they have a serious matter on ground to discuss as men. Kelvin was happy thinking his uncle brought good news about him returning back to school. He said to his uncle"enhm uncle let me quickly prepare something for you to eat" his uncle replied "no need for that enhh just come sitdown, let's have our discussion i have other schedules for the day". Kelvin went and sit down anticipating to hear from uncle Harrison. "Kelvin i have come to inform you that this house you are staying is not your father's house, it belongs to our father your grandfather, he only gave it to father when got married to your mother, and expected him to leave when he buid his own house" Kelvin in shock, he said stammering " enhh un...cle i thought, the house is portion of my father inheritance from his father my grandfather" shut up you this little rat , Kelvin was so scared and shock, immediately he kept quiet, his uncle said to him "you think all those promises I made in the presence of everyone was real, i only did that to maintain my dignity in the present of people, so you have one week to get out of this house or else i will send my boys to come and push you out". This is the moment that changed everything in kelvin's life. Uncle Harrison Left the house Kelvin was still in shock and his mouth open.

Kelvin soliloquize am i dreaming he pinch himself and went out to wash his face with water, " this is real he said, Joan was right, now where will i start from? I need to see Kingsley my friend so that i can squat with him for the main time.
Kelvin narrated what his uncle told him to Joan pitifully. Joan said to him " i told you, I warned you not trust your uncle's promises but you refuse, so now what are you going to do?" She asked Kelvin "I will talk to Kinsley to see if he could accommodate me for sometime" Kelvin replied. Joan said to him as she moved to get a little water from her room to drink " in case he refused to accommodate you, you can come over since i am alone, but you will have to get a job so that you will help yourself in the aspect of feeding and clothing". He thanked her and left to look for mini job.
He spoke to Kingsley, but he refused to accommodate Kelvin , Kelvin has no option than to pack his things to Joan's house. From this point he got a small paying job which he uses to support himself and also involved himself in weekly contribution, for which really helped him.
After some months Kelvin was able to raise a reasonable amount of money to rent a house and still continue with the job and the weekly contribution.
Joan said to him happily "you are now a man, ehenn you have a room of your own, very soon it will be a house of your own". Kelvin laughed and said "it all happened because of you, thank you for your encouragement and support, I really appreciate" "at least i learnt one thing, depending on myself and how to struggle to become something good, maybe assuming my father is still alive he would have pampered me by now i would have been a spoilt brat". Joan replied " thank God you never gave up after your discussion with your uncle, is so good seeing you smile again Kelvin". He smiled and hugged her .
It is good not to trust the promises of people because they can fail you at anytime.
It's a good thing he moved out and find peace or else, it would have been a tug of war between him and his uncle.
