Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #61

Source

Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!

In this post, we'll announce the winners from last week's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

  • Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
  • We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
  • Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
  • Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
  • We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
  • Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @kingsleyy, with the story:

The group of death

Before I knew it, the goal-scoring demon, Sinclair, picked the ball to play the penalty. At this moment, all hope was lost, our only hope of escaping flew out into thin air. She placed the ball on the penalty spot, walked back a little and positioned herself like Ronaldo, while our goalkeeper stayed in the middle of the goalpost jingling left and right.

Curator's comment :

He has woven magic into this piece : it's funny, engaging and grin-worthy. Skilfully told tale.

Highlighting @popurri, with the story:

Escaping to tranquility

Even though I knew my decision was the right one, I felt tired. My research job was demanding, besides having to supervise all the staff, get home and take care of my family, I had virtually no time for myself.

Curator's comment :

popurri writes a CNF that is pure delight. She talks about stepping away from a very stressful work situation into a nature walk and a swim in a natural spring, where she comes to a conclusion about her role at the company

Featured

Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:

One white and one yellow dove

How is it possible that you have lowered your grades? -my mother asks me, waiting for an answer. I look at her and don't know what to tell her. I would like to tell her that I miss my grandmother, that I would have liked to die with her, that I am very afraid at night every time I fall asleep because I don't feel like getting out of bed. But I prefer to keep quiet and in my head the song continues, "A white dove and a yellow dove, and a yellow dove."

Curator's comment :

Nancybriti1 writes a poignant and hard-hitting #CNF for the *escape* prompt about the loss of her grandmother when she was at high school. They were very close and her death tore Nancy apart. Her grief was so intense that she lost interest in home and school life, stopped eating, and became depressed. Sadly, her parents failed to understand what she was going through and instead of helping her to work through her grief, consigned her to her room as punishment.
