Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #80

Source

Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!

In this post, we'll announce the winners from last week's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

  • Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
  • We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
  • Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
  • Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
  • We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
  • Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:

Some things that cannot be forgotten

The name of that professor doesn't matter, because he could have been one of many wolves in the forest, what is genuinely important is that sometimes that memory assaults my memory like a ghostly echo that tells me that I haven't forgotten that event. Then I ask myself: why is forgetting not voluntary? Why are there memories that show their teeth and you feel the bite as if you were living it all over again?

Curator's comment :

Nancybriti's piece is brilliant. It describes a wolf, a teacher who was actually a predator. He took advantage of her when her defenses were not fully formed. Isn't that the way? Fortunately, she extricated herself at the last moment and sent the wolf packing. In this piece, Nancybritie speaks for a legion of women who have been similarly pursued.

Highlighting @universoperdido, with the story:

Why Would A Frog Go To The Moon?

Mr. Meneses' literary exercises set my teeth on edge. Back then, it made no sense to me. I was a teenager too used to the ordinary and to things predictable and concise, but to come across something that would take me out of my comfort zone and make me easy prey to stress, is something that took my mind from my body.

Curator's comment :

universoperdido writes a delightful and entertaining creative nonfiction story about his interactions with a writing instructor, and how the instructor "set his teeth on edge" with his bizarre writing prompts. The hilarious dialogue between them had me laughing out loud. Ultimately, the rigors of the teacher's instruction caused a breakthrough for him. It's interesting to see the origins of his writing gift!

Highlighting @jjmusa2004, with the story:

Quick end

"Thank you, darling." Blessing said immediately that our conversation had hastily turned lovey-dovey-dovey in a jiffy. "I want Lattafa Opulent Red perfume or NOW Intense. Either of the two is fine." She typed on WhatsApp.

Curator's comment :

Jjmusa2004 writes an entertaining , well structured CNF about the dangers of befriending strangers on social media. He was set upon to buy expensive perfume for a scammer, but got wise to the ripoff before parting with his money. J writes well and his work improves weekly!
