You should really do this more often. Even if you don't enjoy the exercise, you should give us the opportunity to enjoy your writing. This is wonderful. We will have to think of more intriguing prompts and skill challenges to lure you back :)
Your 'hook' is wonderful. The realization grows rather quickly in readers that this is no ordinary coffee shop and that is no ordinary barista. The clues you place along the way are subtle, but clear.
