There is a saying, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". If you hadn't written, you never would have known. It was rather rude of her to laugh. That shows she probably didn't deserve your affection. However, though you may be in the brother zone, but you are also in the 'clear' zone: you know where you stand. No more worrying. No more wondering. It's over :)

It looked bad and depressing at that moment but I later realised that it was for my own good...just as you said.
