- We accept two kinds of short stories in The Ink Well: fictional stories and creative nonfiction stories.
- You can find some great articles on fiction story writing in our catalog of fiction writing tips.
- You can find information about what we are looking for in creative nonfiction stories in this post.
In particular, we have some specific suggestions for you:
- Please read our article on how to write dialogue. Although it was written for fiction writers, the same rules apply. You sometimes use quotation marks, and sometimes don't. It's important in quality writing to use the correct format consistently.
- Be sure to carefully read your content for errors before posting. In The Ink Well, we always encourage writing quality content. We have an article with helpful tips, called Help for the Grammatically Challenged.
- Please be sure to use the correct tags for your stories in The Ink Well — #creativenonfiction or #fiction. You will find this information in the prompt posts.
And please be sure to engage in the community by reading and commenting on the work of other community members. We ask everyone who post in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published. It looks like you are already doing this, so thank you!
