The inseparable bond of friendship. (Fiction)

in The Ink Well8 months ago (edited)

In a small town known for its prosperous minerals and gold in Nigeria, there lived a remarkable two friends, John and Moses. They weren't just intimate; they were entangled, they were the kind of friends who finish each other's sentences within a twinkle of an eye.

One bright afternoon, as they sat under the shade of a oroko tree, Moses said with a grin, "You remember that time in primary school when we used to swap lunch because I didn't like mine?"
John smiled, "Oh, how could I forget? even if i don't remember all, i could recall this memory vividly, a day you brought boiled yam and fried eggs your sister had prepared as I couldn't stand my own meal."

Moses laughed heartily. "That's true friendship right there, my friend."

As they grew older, their friendship only deepened. They shared everything, from their love for reading to helping each other with household chores. Their conversations were a constant exchange of ideas, dreams, and aspirations, and they always had each other's back.

After their primary education, they both
registered for the same secondary school. Although they pursued different academic paths, with John in the science department and Moses in the arts, nothing could keep them apart. During breaks, they would find a quiet corner at the back of of their school where anybody would not disturb them, and usually their voices would fill the air with discussions about their day, the latest books they would read, and their dreams for the future.

"You remember how we competed for the first postion in the class?" Moses asked with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

John chuckled. "Of course, I do. Those friendly rivalries motivated us to push our limits."

Their friends couldn't help but envy their extraordinary friendship. Some even tried to come between them, but their cunning plans always failed as the two jolly friends always got each other backs. John and Moses' irresistible bond was forged in the fires of loyalty and trust.

After their secondary school education, life led them down different paths. John gained admission to a prestigious university in Abuja, while Moses secured an opportunity in the premier university in Ibadan. Despite the miles that separated them, their friendship remained as strong as ever.

In the evenings, they would talk on the phone, share stories of their day, and discussing their dreams and aspirations. Through letters and occasional visits during holidays, they held onto their connection.

But, as the saying goes, "Twenty friends can not play for twenty years." Destiny had a unique plan for the two friends. John received a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom, a dream he had cherished for years. It was a dream that came with a bittersweet reality as he would have to leave his cherished friend, Moses behind.

With heavy hearts, they stood at the airport on the day of John's departure. Tears welled up in their eyes as they hugged each other tightly.

Moses' voice quivered. "I'm going to miss you so much, John."

John also replied, "I will miss you too, my friend. But this is an opportunity i wouldn't like to miss or forsake."

As the plane took off, they waved at each other through the airport window, their friendship soaring to new heights.

Life continued for Moses in Nigeria, and he focused on his studies and dreams. He missed John terribly but was comforted by the thought that his friend was pursuing his dreams.

Years passed, and both friends ventured into their respective careers. Moses, now a brilliant engineer, secured a job with an oil company. He was doing fine ,but he never for once forgot his friend

One day, as Moses was going about his daily routine at work in Nigeria, his phone rang. The truecaller displayed John's name.

Moses' heart skipped a beat as he answered. "John? Is that really you?"

John voice came through the line, filled with excitement. "Moses, it's me! I'm back in Nigeria, and I have some fantastic news. My job brought me here again!"

Moses couldn't believe his ears. "You're in Nigeria? That's incredible! Where are you?"

John replied, "I'm at the airport, and I can't wait to see you, my friend!" Moses had to take permission from work that day in order to welcome his long-time friend.

The two friends' reunion at the airport was nothing short of magic. As John plane touched down, Moses stood there, eagerly awaiting his friend's arrival. As john alighted, they locked eyes in the midst of the crowd, and their faces broke into wide smiles.

"John!" Moses shouted, running to embrace his friend.

"Moses!" John exclaimed, ran to embrace him.

They laughed, they cried, and they couldn't stop talking. Their dialogue was a constant exchange of stories and memories, as if they were trying to make up for all the time they had spent apart.

Moses took his friend to his personal house, and after dinner, the night of John's arrivals, they reminisced about their shared past. Their laughter filled the air as they recounted old adventures and pranks, and they marvelled at how life had brought them back together.

"I never thought I'd see you again," Moses admitted, his eyes misty.

John nodded, his voice filled with emotion. "It's like a dream come true, my friend."

John and Moses' remarkable journey through life had taught them the enduring power of friendship. They were not just friends; they were family. And as they caught up on each other's lives, it was clear that the bond between John and Moses had only grown stronger with time. Their separation had made them appreciate each other even more.

In the morning, before John set out to go, Moses had prepared bread and tea as breakfast for his friend.

Over a cup of tea, John clinked his cup against Moses. "To a bond that can withstand anything life throws our way!"

Him. I don't know why our generation turned out like this. There is a lot of bitterness everywhere, at place of work, religion institutions, to worse the situation, even in family.

The friendship between these two people is truly exceptional. They share tastes, desires and goals, they supported each other in childhood and have collected a world of happy memories. They are friends who love each other, and are able to show their great affection for each other.
