Such an interesting story but a sad one at the end. I think Granny has just passed her message to you not to be afraid of anything.
But was it an hallucination for you or it's your fear that made you think she changed truly?

Your story portrays the power of fear - hallucinations. It made your main character see things that were not real and hindered him from spending quality time with his dying grandmother.

Good thing he has a therapist to talk to. Nicely written! 🙂

Many people are still fighting the fear of things that appears to the mind though not in existence.
Coming out to accept your fears and getting a therapist is a good step in the right direction.
Good job.

This is a poignant reminder of the fact that life is ephemeral and we all shall get old and wrinkled some day.
Btw, it's sad that your fear couldn't let you draw closer to your granny because of the hallucination you saw.

This is a psychological horror story. And it is a story of great love. It is dreadful that the demon-like creature should appear on Granny's face. Lovely, weak Granny. So the reader must wonder, is this the hallucination? Or is a demon torturing the protagonist? Most readers will believe that the protagonist is suffering from a psychological break. Of course, only the author (you) knows for sure what the truth is.

Thank you for sharing the short story with the Ink Well community. And thank you for engaging with your fellow authors.

A boy begins with hallucinations at the age of six, the incident narrated seems only a product of the infantile mind, as he recovers; but the fear returns and is evidenced in a moment of great stress due to the seriousness of the beloved grandmother.
That character must return to the therapist's chair.
