BETRAYAL

in The Ink Well2 months ago

Andrew had wanted to be a police officer since he was a kid. But life doesn't always go the way we all expect.
Happily married for five years to his high school sweetheart, he ventured into construction.
Their marriage was blessed with a very handsome boy, the first two years after his birth was a dreadful one because he was a sickly child.

2016 also marked a huge decline for Andrew because the construction business hit a huge wall. A lot of workers were laid off and those who were left on the job, their pay were slashed by half.
It was already difficult surviving with the previous wage, a slash in their pay was a huge blow.

Andrew knew that the construction business was a no go area so he sought out new opportunities. Trying to get his feet, another huge blow was Thrwon at him when his wife asked for a divorce.

So to him it seemed everything was a mess. His town felt so small for him because it now carried bad memories of the places he failed. Failed business and a failed marriage was to much to bear.

In a new city after many months still thinking of what to do with his life. He had already hit a stage in his life where not all jobs wpuld accommodate him.
He went to the bank to withdraw some money and, the bank was hit by armed robbers and one of the criminals pointed a gun at him and that was when it dawned on him that he once had a dream to be a police officer.

His journey began. It was all rosy. He was humiliated because he was a thirty eight year old man in the police academy where mostly youths were predominant.

But notwithstanding he pushed and pushed for months and years and finally graduated. Went through all the challenges, jumped through high walls and succeeded.

Even with a failed marriage, he still went for his dream. I'm a new city he had to make new friends and if life was fair to him, he wished to be in love again.
Even though he was betrayed in his previous relationship, he still never doubted that love was real.and was for everyone who believed in it.

Rose was a beautiful neighbour at the new apartment Andrew rented. A weird situation had introduced them to each other and they became friends.

Andrew thought it wise to ask her out on a date and see where the ride goes. He took up courage and asked and she was so happy like she had been expecting him to make the move a long time ago.

So far so good, his life was taking a good turn. He had a new job which was him dream job and a stable relationship which be thought had a good future because Rose had started prioritising him in a lot of decisions she made.

Even without realising it Andrew fell in love with Rose and it seemed the felling was mutual. They were literally inseparable.
Who knew what storm would emerge next.

They had been together for a year and Andrew knew that even though his first marriage ended, Rose was the best decision he had made. He asked some friends on how pop the big question and what gesture to use.

It was around 5pm on Friday. ANDREW took her to a good restaurant. Since he was old school, he decided to go on his own pace. Just ask her during the meal.

He held her hand and confessed to her.
"You look really beautiful. I love you. I love the way you came into my life and made it yours..I can no longer imagine going on this life without you."

He dipped his hands into his pocket to bring out the ring.

"Rose is that you?
A male figure walked in with smiles on his face.
"Oh my God, it's so nice seeing you." He added.

Rose was too shocked to even utter a word. She looked at the man standing just beside Andrew. Andrew gave her the look to make the introductions.

The male figure knowing how shocked Rose was to utter a world, decided to help her out.

"Hey man, I'm John. Rose's husband."

Andrew sat their so shocked.
"You are married, and you didn't tell me?" He asked.

It felt like the world was collapsing around him. Is this the second betrayal again. Everything seemed right with Rose, there weren't any suspicious activity.

"What did I do to deserve this?
