Christmas Eve

"Why the hell will a person be fasting on Jesus's birthday?" Korede said. "You guys overreact alot. Even Jesus is will eat on this day and all these religious folks will be overdoing it." He added.

A call between Korede and his best friend Adanna could take months. Most times Korede's parents would intentionally hide his phone when they see Adanna was calling especially if they wanted to have a discussion with him. They spoke about everything and nothing.

Their relationship had also knitted the friendship between both families. As they always teased them that they would arrange their marriage. But as young people they would always deny it but everyone could see that this two couldn't live without the other.

This time their call had been for over four hours and it was on a Christmas eve. Mr. Modupe overheard the comment by Korede about fasting on Christmas and he was disappointed that his son would think that the thought of fasting on Christmas was outrageous. He had to do something about it, before he raises a child who fasts only when it was comfortable.

Mrs. Modupe had just gone to the market to buy all the drinks and snack Korede loved to make his Christmas a memorable one. This year has been a really grateful year for the Modupe's. Korede had just gained admission into Babcock university to study the course of his dreams, medicine and surgery.

He had just gotten back from school and had lost a little weight. Mrs. Module made it a mission to restore what was lost before he went back to school. Her journey to the market was to make sure Korede enjoyed every single day this Christmas. Only If she had known what her husband had in mind.

She walked into the house and offloaded all the goodies into the fridge.
"Korede" Mrs. Modupe shouted.
"Yes mummy" he rushed downstairs to behold the amazing things that were bought to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. Although right now looking at the fridge it looked like Korede's birthday instead.

"Woo, thanks so much mum, I love you. Oh, you bought the pringles. I thought you said you weren't going to buy it." He kissed and hugged his mum.
Nothing on earth makes Mrs. Modupe more happy than seeing her only child these joyous.

"Korede" Mr. Modupe shouted.
"Yes daddy" he responded as he made his way to the sitting room where his dad was calling from.

"Tomorrow is Christmas and it's our Lord and saviours worldwide celebrated birthday. So to honour his name for how grateful we are for bringing us this far this year, we will be fasting" Mr. Modupe said.

"Dad, that's not a good way to celebrate Him. It is rude just watching him eat without eating along side." Korede said with so much disappointment in his voice.

Mrs. Korede laughed hearing the last statement from her son. She couldn't interfere because her husband's word is law. Especially when it comes to the matter of spiritual things.

"Dad, I don't think Jesus would want that for me. I mean we can fast any other but on his birthday we should eat with the celebrant" The seriousness in his voice was soo shocking like he believed everything he was saying.

Ignoring his rambles, Mr. Modupe continued. "The fasting would start now and end tomorrow evening by 3pm."

"Dad, the birthday has finished by that time na, that's the time people will be going home" Korede said.

I guess the seriousness at which he said all these was why Mrs. Modupe it so funny.

"You can go to your room and rest because tomorrow by 3pm that will be when you will enjoy all the goodies your mum bought for you" Mr. Modupe said.

He angrily went upstairs. The stomp from his feet was so loud that the mum feared the house would collapse.

In the middle of the night, on Christmas morning, Korede had endured the hunger but right now it seemed the hunger was on the angry level. You know the saying 'a hungry man is an angry man' except the man here was just a boy pissed at his father and was about to teach his father a lesson.

Since everyone would be asleep. His plans was to sneak downstairs to the fridge collect a few snacks and eat them upstairs where no one would find out because he would have to hide the wraps till the fast was over.
The mission started and finally he had successfully reached the fridge without being caught.

He silently opened the fridge and picked a few snacks, on closing the fridge, a jingle sound was made. That was when he observed that his father had hung a bell on the fridge knowing who his son was. The bell was to ring if the fridge was opened or closed.

The sudden noise from the fridge startled Korede as he quickly left all his spoils from war right there and ran upstairs in fear.

Mr. Module and Mrs. Modupe walked out of their rooms and saw the mess their son had made and how he couldn't even clean up after him.

The both of them looked at each other and bursted out laughing.
"But baby, this prank is too much na" Mrs. Modupe said as he cleaned up and walked with her husband back to their room.

When Mr. Modupe heard Korede talking about how it was absurd fasting on a Christmas day. He quickly called his wife so they would play a prank on their son.
