When silence speaks

in The Ink Well20 days ago

The accusations came from different angles but was met with silence.

"Are you not going to say anything to defend yourself?" Eniola asked.

Kehinde has always been the rogue one in the family. Out of all the fifty problems, forty five were birthed by him. This time as the accusations tarried longer and longer that we're met with a different side of Kehinde.

The silence actually made it look like He was feeling guilty for his mistakes and couldn't find words to defend himself.

"Kehinde, I kept that meat in the pot and I'm sure that you were the one that ate it. That meat is for your father's dinner and you know he doesn't eat without meat." She fell down on her chair sorrowfully. "God why are you punishing me?" She exclaimed with tears jolting down her eyes.

Kehinde sat down quiet wearing the face of the guilt layed upon his shoulders. The accolades of all his previous triumphs.
His elder sister thought it a mystery as to why of all times to be quiet He chose a time as this. But His previous achievements were the foundations as to why this accusations saw the light.

Eniola wouldn't take the three meat I kept for your father, I definitely didn't take it, your twin brother also didn't take it because He is not in the country and your father left for work. The fact you are quiet is because you feel guilty that I'm disappointed again. You promised me the last time that you won't do this again and I believed you because that's what a mother does but to see you quiet like this is really disappointing.

When your Dad comes back from work, I will suggest to him on how we should allow you to live in your own so you would see how life is outside this house.

With that Mrs. Adura left the sitting room. She was filled with so much disgust. The fact that She was certain and yet Kehinde couldn't do her the honour to even deny or claim innocence was more irritating.
He just sat on the couch engrossed in his phone as the mum and Eniola his younger sister rained their chains of disappointment.

Finally, Mr. Adura made his way back to his troubled home. He was greeted with a hug from his wife and immediately the hot gist of the day.

"Can you imagine that this your son stole again today, My husband?"

"What did He do this time?" Mr. Adura asked.

"Papa, the meat mama kept in the kitchen these morning, it was for your dinner this night. Bro. Kehinde ate it and mummy was talking to Him, He ignored mummy." Eniola voiced.

Kehinde was still seated on the same spot where his mum left him hours ago. The silence from him was so deafening and the Father was so shocked and dumbfounded.

"Wait, wait, you mean the chicken that was in the stainless plate this morning?" Mr. Adura asked. "I was the one that ate it na. I was late for work and I really wanted to eat something because I knew I had a long day at work, I couldn't wait for hot water to boil so I could make tea, I saw the chicken, I took them and left for work. I even ate them in the car."

Tears rolled down from Kehinde's cheeks. From the moment the accusation started up until this moment, words couldn't escape his lips. He couldn't stop the tears from rushing down. The embarrassment was too much that He stood up and left the house.

"Kehinde, Kehinde my son, comeback. I'm sorry, Mummy is so sorry" Mrs Adura screamed as she ran after him.

Mr. Adura didn't even know what was happening. He was just seated there confused by both why his son was crying and why his wife was apologising.

Mrs. Adura jolted back in with so much anger. "Have you seen what you've caused. My son won't forgive me for this. I have given him a huge scar." She said as he fell down on the floor. "Just because of chicken. No wonder he was so quiet."

"But the last time he stole, which was seven months ago, He promised us that he would never do that. Why didn't you trust him?" Mr. Adura asked. "I even though He stole another think, thank God he didn't." He added.

Eniola stood there in silence. She could now relate why her elder brother was quiet when he was accused. He was probably holding back his tears all day. The silence was him screaming "I'm innocent" but no one was attentive enough to hear him.

Great moral to the story and heart strings pulled as a mama.

Always ask to clarify and never make assumptions :)

*claps

It's time for Kindle to shut up, and silence is probably the best option. And sometimes things like this happen in all families.

The story is very good and has moral values and positive messages.

You're great @venom2951. I really like stories with lots of moral messages.

Thanks alot

This things happens in most families and actually kihinde really needs to shut up and stay silent because that is the best thing to do

Thanks a lot

The poor boy was unjustly accused by his family. A story that shows us a reality we all experience at some point: prejudice.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent day.

I appreciate

An interesting story from that perspective. It happens and Kehinde's last significance made his innocence unbelievable. I enjoyed reading through.

Thanks a lot
