Taking Chances.

Jane was the beautiful one, words cannot describe it. She was the one with the gorgeous hair, a luminous smile and alluring eyes. When she walks, she does so with so much grace and poise. As for me, well.....let's just say, beauty isn't my default setting. I do have my strengths though- my brains.

Jane and I have been friends since childhood. We are so bonded, people mistake us for blood sisters. Jane had everything I ever wanted. She's from a rich home and can afford anything she wants. She had all the boys going crazy for her. She was the life of every party. Everybody wanted to be her friend. As for me? I was the invisible one. No one noticed me, except when they needed to get Jane through me.

Joshua was a colleague and friend. He was the only thing I had that Jane didn't have. I was smitten by him and was biding my time until the day Jane visited me at work. She met him, charmed him and married him within a space of six months. However, the marriage was cursed. It was full of fights and quarrels. Jane hauls insults at him at every slightest provocation and Joshua never stopped complaining to me.

Joshua was madly in love with her. It was a sickness he needed to be cured of. I got tired of interceding. The last time I did, she reminded me that marriage was a topic I apparently have no idea about given my status. I was hurt and that was when I decided to take Joshua away from her. He deserved better.

The opportunity presented itself the day Joshua came complaining again. I listened like I always do but this time I noticed how succulent and smooth his lips were. In the middle of his complaining, I reached out and kissed him. He hesitated at first but parted his lips eventually, letting me in. I curled my left fingers around his and untucked his shirt with my left. He stopped me halfway, stood up and left.

After the event, Joshua stopped picking my calls. I needed to reach him and make him aware of how much I desired him. I decided to visit to spend the night. Hopefully, I'll get a chance for a tete-a-tete. That evening, we ate dinner in silence and settled to watch a movie. At the end of the movie, Jane excused herself to have a bath. Jane takes forever in the bathroom. That was my cue. I picked myself up from my chair and walked towards him and sat on his lap.

Joshua's eyes widened. "Jesus! Rosemary, what are you doing?" He said in hushed tones.

I placed my finger on his lips, shutting him up. He wasn't ready to talk when I wanted, now the rules had changed. He tried to push me away but I wouldn't bulge. One way or the other I was going to have him. I unbuttoned his shirt and ran my hands along his flat abs and over his chest. I planted kisses all over his neck and nibbled on his ear. I heard him give out a soft moan and I chuckled.

"Rose, please. Jane is in the bathroom. She will be out any moment and I don't want her to find us in this compromising position". He pleaded.

"Then let's make it a quickie". I replied.

Joshua looked so helpless and it turned me on the more. My hands continued to wander as I unbuttoned his trousers and reached out for his zippers but he caught my hand.

"This isn't the right place for this. Is this because I've been avoiding you? Just tell me where to meet you and I will" he said with clenched teeth.

I stood up from his lap and patted him. "I've always known you are smart". I leaned closer with my mouth to his ears, "One way or the other, I'll have you. All I want is to show you how you deserve to be loved. You are a good man Josh, Jane doesn't deserve you.".

Joshua leaned backward as he buttoned up. "Fine! Think of a place and time and I'll be there".

I was faster than him. I already bought two tickets for a 30 days ship cruise. I suspected my visit would yield good returns. I brought out the ticket and flung one at him.

"We are sailing on Friday. This is our chance to be happy. Please, don't ruin it. I mean well Josh".

He held my hands and pulled me in for a kiss on my forehead. "I won't, I promise".

We heard the door of the bathroom unlock and resumed our positions. The rest of the night was uneventful. The next morning, I left to go prepare for the start of a new life with the man I love. Eventually, Jane would find out but she'll understand. Afterall, she's never treated him right.

The much awaited day arrived. I was dressed in my black leggings with a tank top and my sunglasses. I stood on the deck of the ship and waited for Joshua. He was running late. I wondered if he had a change of mind. Any moment, the ship would set sail. True to his promise, he came but he wasn't alone.

Jane wore an angry look. I wondered how much she knew. Jane is never nice when she is angry. I thought of my defence but nothing came to mind. The moment they got to where I stood, Jane hit my face so hard it and my sunglasses fell to the floor.

"This is for being a bad sister and trying to steal my husband. How dare you? Joshua told me everything. At first, I didn't believe him but seeing you here? How could you Rose?"

My cheeks burned. I rubbed my eyes to hide the redness from them. Words failed me. I couldn't bear to look upon their faces. For a moment, I wished the ground would open up and swallow me.

"You say I don't love my husband? Do You love him more?" She continued. "You disgust me, Rose. I don't ever want to see you again!"

She turned and walked off the ship with Joshua who didn't turn to give a second glance at me. The ship sailed without him. I felt betrayed and ashamed. As I jumped into the waters, the last thing I remembered was the hatred on Joshua's face.

I really don’t know how to feel about this story. Rose might have meant well but she shouldn’t have gone so far. I’m sad for her but angry at her too. Love is really complicated right?

Great story. Take care.

Love is really complicated my dear!

Oh dear, what a sad demise for a sad and messed up person. Many people take marriage seriously, despite temptation. ❤️😊🤔

You are right. A lot of people take marriage seriously no matter the differences they are having.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment.

A sad ending for Rose that makes us wonder if Josh would be blaming himself for it. Such a tricky position and decision for him, remaining faithful to Jane was probably all he had in mind without considering any other consequences.

Yeah! I guess she didn't see the need to keep living not after everything that happened. I'm happy to share my story with the Ink Well community. Thank you so much for stopping by.

Wow..... Such a nice story. I really learnt a lot. Rose shouldn't have meddled in their affair.

Wow, this is an intense story, @zyzymena. I love how you told a story of someone trying to steal a husband from the husband-stealer's perspective. Well done!

Thank you @Jayna. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
