Alchemy & Art ✂️🖌Turning Digital Media into a Physical Creation ⚡️ my Weekly Witch Blog

in Magick2 months ago (edited)

Most days I am so grateful for the internet and the opportunities it has created for artists to share our work with the world. Other days I feel at odds with my role as a content creator. I begin to wonder: I am simply churning out art and articles for the sake of it? Or, am I really sharing information that inspires and informs?

Since last week's witchy musings on this very subject, so many words have flown from my mind to my notebook and now I think I have found an answer to my query.

All the time and energy I have spent on my digital projects is simply a step in my artistic process.

And now, I am taking the words and pictures created for this blog and transforming them into a physical form.

For the past few months I have made it a goal to share a weekly "witchy blog" posts here in the magick community. And, these words you see cut out in the image above are those that I have written for this very blog over the past months.

These words are in the process of transformation. No longer just 1's and 0's in the digital matrix, they are committed to paper thanks to my printer. With time and a little cutting & pasting they are slowly becoming the pages of my next zine.

Making little booklets about my personal experience (which, in the art community we call zines) is something I have been doing since I was a teenager. Now, around 16 years later, I have begun to see how important it is to continue creating physical art, even if it means less content created for digital platforms.

So often I think "If the power goes out ... if the internet goes down ... it will be the books, sculptures, and clothing that will remain".

Writing for my blog is a part of my daily life and an aspect of my career that I enjoy, but ... who will read these blog posts years from now?

I want to contribute to a body of physical art that will outlive me, outlive changes to the internet. And with this perspective I am seeing that my blog posts are actually a first draft for later iterations of my art, spell work, and legacy as a creator.

Herbs, art, and positive predictions can be used to build a better life. In these weekly posts I share aspects of my journey as a pagan & witch. These are the aspects of my craft that you are allowed to see, anyway.
