All of these things can help but they do not prove beyond what we can see into the past. We assume that these patterns, like time itself, is constant as we go back in time. A major thing is the secret to the Grand Canyon. It is not as old as you think.

I'm pretty certain nobody has ever claimed it takes "millions of years" for mud to dry out.
