Hi guys and girls. Today I come to show you a new look!
This time my inspiration was Merlina Addams, as you know, her series recently premiered on Netflix, which more than one of us have loved (if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it).
Merlina is characterized for being a very apathetic girl, ironic and with a very marked black humor, which is always reflected in the way she dresses. She avoids colors altogether and that's why black and white are the only colors we would see in her closet.
I really wanted to do something that represented her, but I started thinking about a look and decided I would take a little risk by drawing something more daring and sexy, obviously always keeping the essence of the character. A mysterious and sensual look wouldn't be bad for her, what do you think?
Boceto / Sketch
The sketch was made on watercolor paper, because I think that when erasing the pencil is not so noticeable because it is a resistant paper; I chose a 2b pencil to sketch and I started with a vertical line as a guide, which helped me to locate the limbs and torso.
Continuing with the sketch I shaped it and this time I decided that I would draw only up to the knee part simply because I thought it looked good like that. In this step I didn't know if I should draw the whole arms or not, because I wasn't sure what would be the final look.
Look / Outfit
This was the hardest part since I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted. First I tried to do a casual day look,(it didn't turn out as I expected), then I tried a night look and then a costume.... But none of them could convince me.
In the end I decided to let my imagination run wild and a big collar, ruffled dress, veiled stockings and gloves were the ones chosen.
As you could see I added arms to the drawing because the look deserved it and I didn't want to change their position or give them more structure because Merlina's character usually always keeps a rigid position.
Color
The choice of colors was more than clear. Black was the primary and only choice for the look.
I used black micro-tip, Sharpie marker and black India ink to color the stockings, gloves and the rest of the dress. For the parts that were white in the drawing, I didn't use color since they simulate lace, which I wanted to paint but didn't know exactly how to give it that finish. It is clear that I have to practice that part.
Finally the hairstyle is similar to the one used by Merlina in the series for her school dance.
Thanks for reading and watching, I hope you liked it a lot. I will bring you more inspirations very soon!
Hola, me encantaría! Gracias por la invitación.
It looks great and I like that it has no face. Makes it more mysterious. Congratulations.
Thanks you. I'm glad you liked it :)
