F2P Mobile/Desktop experience for new players Part 2: Day 11 check-in

in Gods On Chain3 months ago

Another WR in the bag, so let’s see how this f2p progression goes and what future upgrades we can expect (both in my decks and in mobile functionality, so it can actually be a mobile-only experience).

What’s still missing from mobile?
Supposedly, a bug-fix update is coming in the next few days (weeks?). I’ll be honest, the last week I’ve played more games on desktop than on mobile, as the experience is not there yet, and I had access to my laptop most of the time, but I did like 25% of the games on mobile, so I can also comment on that. As a new player, last time I mentioned the lack of onboarding, and now I want to add to that one more point. The star store is a big resource missing for new players, but actually Flux is never explained either, and the flux wheel cannot even be checked on mobile, meaning you can't know what gods to play to gather more flux. If you’re totally new, flux is one of the ingredients used for forging; a way to make your in-game reward cards into NFTs that you can trade and get crypto to improve your deck, or to make the cards earn more from the daily games. I often see questions about card shine and fragments, and what’s worth it. Here is a calculator, that’s quite accurate in my experience, bookmark it and you can calculate daily fragments depending on your deck’s shine. I personally did not experience many issues with mobile, but I believe I won games because opponents crashed 3-4 times, and I assume it was a mobile issue. Another thing I would like to be updated is the God Power (gp) interaction, I’ve lost a game because of a ‘misclick’, when instead of my gp, a creature attacked the target, as they’re extremely close to each other (or my fingers are too fat). But functionality is lacking (forge, daily claim, star store, flux wheel), and as a newcomer, those functionalities are essential.

My progress so far:
1. (Weekend) Ranked: In my first WR event, I went 11/18 starting in Midnight Shadow, earning me 1 fate booster pack and I also went out of my way to win 30 games during the event to get a second pack.

my second WR starting from Solar GoldThis weekend felt like a déjà vu, 11/18, but now starting in Solar Gold, my maximum rank at the moment. This is now worth 3 fate packs, but unfortunately, I could not grind for the extra pack. I was once 1 win away from Diamond, probably during the week I could push for it when it becomes a bit easier than during the weekend. I think it shows a healthy f2p environment that one can reach rank 10 of 12 after a week of playing and 20 cents of spending. Now I’ve spent a bit more from my first daily P&E rewards, but I think I’m still under $2 of spending, and for now, it seems that can keep me in Solar Gold.

2. Deck Building
As explained in the previous post, War is probably the best beginner god you can take, and now I’m going more into detail about why. At lower levels, games are mostly focused and decided on the board, and this is where cheap decks can focus. Board presence is mainly achieved through the neutral Welcome/Core cards: Wild Hog / Axewoman / Springbloom Hunter / Hunt Warden (or Dune Cavalry from core) / Feral Shapeshifter (one of the best core cards) and Wetlands Ogre or Belligerent Insomniac is better, I just did not have 2 copies of it. What I’ve often seen as a mistake from people is not trading effectively, just going face sometimes, which is a big mistake against war, who has Over-proof Brew. It’s a bit of a hit-or-miss card, as you need board for the most effective use of it, but when you have that, it wins you games against decks with better cards. Raid reveller is also a war staple you have to include, protected is hard to answer for the cheaper decks in lower ranks. If you’re lucky and get the blitzers from your core packs, you don’t have to depend on solely going first, as war has answers going second too, and Fracture is one of the best 3 gps for lower ranks.

I personally after receiving my rewards, which included a Draka gatherer, decided to go for a dragon war build. It’s not the most effective deck, especially on a budget, but it’s something that can be fresh with many games, as you always get new cards from delves, and that’s why it can sometimes come back from tough spots. So it’s not exactly recommended, but here is my current deck anyway.

But if recommended budget decks, I can advise these three:

I think the most versatile deck is this deception one, for around $14. It's not the easiest deck to pilot, maybe not the best beginner deck, as it doesn't fight for the board the same way other decks do, but it can beat most of the decks (and also lose to them). https://gudecks.com/decks/GU_1_2_KCZKCZKDLKDPKDPKDSKDSMBfMBfMBgMBgCCZCCZCDDCDDCFTCFTCFVCFVGBnGBnGCKHADHADIAnIAnIAoIAoIClICl?godPowers=100119,100125,101308&creator=dieuk17&userId=1912502&archetype=Strength%20Steal%20Deception

Aggro war is the more straightforward one. You can finetune it, with a bit different spells, or some different creature choices, but I think imp/warmonger/shapeshifter/reveller/lykaios/white fur/challenger are a base they all build on. The idea is to trade favourably and/or smack face quickly. The trick is to learn when to do which, but with practice you can be better at it. Here is an example, maybe not the best one to my liking, but it's done well in Diamond ranks it seems: https://gudecks.com/decks/GU_1_6_KBbKBgKBhKBiKBiMAgMAgOAGOAGCAZCAZCBBCBBCBaCBaCCLCDZCDZCDqCDqCEcCEcHAFHAFHAcHAcIAZIAZICHICH?godPowers=100113,102402&creator=CONTROLWAR&userId=4555272&archetype=Zoo%20War

And the third one is Zoo light, which swarms the board quickly, and tries to quickly buff it with additional health and armor/protected. It's even more dependent on going first than aggro war, but if it does and the opponent doesn't have quick answers, it snowballs out of control quickly: https://gudecks.com/decks/GU_1_3_KABKABKAHKAHKALKALKAUKCyKCyKDQKDQCABCABCBMCCsCCsCFXCFYCFbCFbCFfCFfHAFHAFIAqIAqICjICjICkICk?godPowers=100115&creator=VillageSneaker&userId=4695898&archetype=Zoo%20Light

Earnings on day 11:
As explained, I’ve already won 2 Fate booster packs, with a total value of around $0.36. With luck, you can earn some more from these, but probably you can go as low as 5 cents. We’ll see how my Fate Super packs will boost the earnings from this Weekend.
But I think the more reliable source of ‘income’ for upgrades is the daily P&E. Even with mostly plain cards you can earn 1-2 gods a day, and that will be enough to slowly upgrade your decks.

With the daily gods coming, you can forge your cards and sell them. Gumeta has a nice interface for it, but I think the easiest is just to check Tokentrove the prices of core common/rare/epic cards, and if you have the expensive ones, just forge those and sell them.
I’ve also made some cents from the Star Strore, but there it’s also advisable to wait for the better cards to drop, and buy those. For meteorite Welcome cards, I think they refresh it every 2-3 days.
Well, that was it for the Day 11 check-in. I might push for Mythic, but I do miss playing with more complex decks on my main account. But if that’s something that would be interesting for you, leave a comment, or if you have other questions/comments, don’t hesitate to ask.

Rebuilding HiveBuzz: The Challenges Towards Recovery

I’ll be honest, the last week I’ve played more games on desktop than on mobile

I too, like playing on my laptop rather than on a mobile (mobile phone), I wonder if playing it on a tablet gives a different playing experience.
