Gods Unchained Balance Spec: Four cards poised for an upgrade?

ireland-1971997_1920.png

In this post, we will look at four core/mortal judgment cards that are currently quite cheap and see minimal play in the current meta. Beside each card you will see the current price and percentage of play in decks based on GUdecks data. These cards hold a great possibility of a buff when balance changes come in the near future in my opinion. Specifically, we will focus on nature and war cards as these two gods are seeing minimal play time at the mythic level. I have broken down some possible buffs these cards may see and all the information is speculative in nature with no prior knowledge on my part. Let us get into it.

Moon Hound ($1.77, 15%)

The refresh one mana is nice and pairs well with revenant lynx. You could in theory play them both on turn five and put out two marsh walkers along with them as well as a couple wild hogs or other one mana creatures. This plays into an aggro nature strategy that fills the board wide and can use spells such as wildfire to buff their creatures. Filling the board quickly with beefy creatures may get past the spell magic plays as well as deception cards such as umber arrow that can have you kill off your own cards.

Fate-Lead Menace ($0.06, 1.8%)

Not sure what the devs were thinking when making this card. Most other war cards get a damage buff when surviving damage. The plus 1 health with only two health to begin with is perplexing as it is very unlikely to survive an attack currently. My proposal and possibility for the future is to give this card four health similar to skeleton heavy from the past. That would keep this card on the board and give some backing to its name as a menace.

Raider Captain ($0.2, 2.5%)

Aggro war has had its day in the sun in the past and would like to see it return given the deck I have already made using this strategy in the past. Right now, the high damage cards cannot seem to stick on the board given what deception, control magic, and death have in play to remove these creatures. The other challenge is heavy frontline from light which can really stale a match. Due to all of this, I propose this card to be buffed to give flank and protected to each creature. The blitz originally does not make much sense as it could only buff a card in hand which would be low mana given the five mana price tag on the captain. The protected is great but again is probably given to a low damage card. Having these two abilities would allow for a buff of previously played cards that have stuck on the board in the flank as well as allow for spells to not completely get rid of them such as rapture dance.

Crescent Werewolf ($0.10, 4.5%)

Continuing with the nature theme of refreshing mana, we have the werewolf. Right now with two health it really has trouble staying on the board for more than one turn. Giving it one more health would allow it to be more sticky but not as bad as the menace mentioned above. There would be some nice combos with the werewolf, moon hound, and lynx to put out a wide board early in games and make the aggro nature play viable again.

This is not an exhaustive list as many of these core and mortal judgement cards are under 10 cents. A great opportunity in my opinion to pick up for spec buys with a fairly low floor. Please upvote or comment if you have any other cards on your radar for a buff.

Sort:

Crescent is Divine Order, which is locked and cannot be modified. The remaining devs all hate Tempt Fate, so those cards are likely to be left in the dumpster. I suppose they might have use in draft modes in the future, though. Unlikely to get buffed.

Raider Captain: possibly. The MJ war creatures are pretty lackluster. We'll have to see.

Token trove betrayed me as I thought order was filtered out in my research. Thank you for the heads up. Yeah war has definitely seen a dip with the new expansion. Hopefully sees it's time here soon but have enjoyed playing deception in the meantime. Thank you for the comment!
