Control deception cheap version: still viable?

Hello everyone,

So after using my control nature deck for a while, which I had decent results with, not the best though, I decided to go for control deception. Now I used to play control deception a lot before cutthroat was reworked, and I tried a couple of versions after it was changed and they were horrible.

However, I saw that deception ws still being played but in a bit of a different way where your goal is to mess up your opponent hands and decks and thus get the control of the game overall. It still had amazing cards and good answers for many decks, but most the deception decks I saw had the expensive cards like demos and thaeriel.

So this time I wanted to try a somewhat cheap version of control deception and see how it goes, so in this post I will be sharing the results and everything related to the deck:

The Deck

 "deck.png"

As you can see, the deck is really close to the old card shuffle deception, however, there were some small additions to it that I wanted to try, and they were helpful in many sitatuion. So now let's get into more details about it:

Matchup Results

First of all let us see the results of the deck and how it went:

"Untitled - Made with DesignCap (1).jpg"

So I played 26 games with the deck, and I got 15 wins in total which is not that bad! Half of these games were in diamond and the rest were on mythic. The mythic ones were a bit tougher but I still managed to win a bunch with it! So overall pretty good results for me! Now let us talk about some keycards of the deck and why are they still good.

Keycards

Now some cards I either did not think they would still be good, or I did not understand their full effects. That is why I was a bit ignorant about them:

Cuthtroat Insight

 "cutthroat.png"

At first I thought this spell was dead, however, after making it 3 mana, even with the new effect it is still really good for messing up the opponent hand especially if he is playing an aggro deck, you can send a keycard for him down to the bottom and ruin his plans, thus making you survive to later game!

Pickpocket

 "pickpocket.png"

This card shines more usually against control decks, since you can get really good cards and spells from them that can turn the tides of the game for you! It is a bit tricky to use since the opponent can ruin it by playing a useless card at the end, but when it comes to expensive cards if you're able to withstand 1 turn and copy them it can be game changing!

Candy Chain

 "chain.png"

Before I read this card properly, I thought the candies only made a card of your opponent hand get shuffled back to their decks, however, it turns out that the card will be discarded and thus disappearing! Now I see how strong this relic is especially if the opponent does not remove it! That's 5 random cards for the enemy thrown into trash! That's insane!

A toast to Peace

Now this deck is very familar in those decks because it is really useful! It is amazing how many combos you can do with it, as well as stalling the game another round and more! Really useful.

Some Combos

Now this deck contain some small combos that you can use that can be useful in some scenarios. Of course, this all depends on the mana that you have or the situation you're in:

Toast to peace and Unexpected Gift

 "combo 1.png"

If your problem in a particular game is healing, you can use this small combo to get extra healing from the unexpected gift. I saw this combo being used against me several times when I was playing CDM and it was pretty effective!

Toast of peace and Divine Coronet

 "combo 2.png"

Usually it is difficult to kill the Coronet when it have 9 HP as well as the opponent will be busy dealing with the 9 mana creature from it. This way you can get it next turn to another 9 mana creature in 2 turns! Dealy combo if it worked!

Any strong card really works well with Toast to Peace as well if you had the chance to get it back to your hand. That's how strong this card is!

Final Thoughts

To be really honest, this deck was one of the funniest ones I have ever played, not only because it is very unique, but also complicated! You have to know how to run the game, how to ruin your opponent and make his deck go to dust! That's why it is really good! On top of that I had decent win rate with it which I am also happy with.

So I definitely advise everyone to try it out and see what I am talking about. I always thought deception was one of the most fun gods to use and I was sad when the cutthroat nerfs hit but now it's back in play!

That was it for this one, be sure to leave a comment if you have any suggestions or anything to say about the deck, and I hope you try it out and get good results with it, goodluck in the weekend event games and I will see you all on the next one!

Mad Love, Peace out <3

Sort:

That's a solid deck! Are you playing Flip GP? I've been thinking about a deck like this but hadn't thought about pickpocket. I was thinking Double Dealer to crush my opponent's hand size even more. Also, I feel compelled to run poly in all my control decks.

i use flip 90% of the times. I would also use pol for sure if I had it in m deck! Double Dealer sounds nasty with this combo, but pickpocket works well in mythic since enemies have the expensive cards/spells 90% of the times!

At first I thought this spell was dead, however, after making it 3 mana, even with the new effect it is still really good for messing up the opponent hand especially if he is playing an aggro deck,

Indeed, and this is mostly the case for me when I am up against a Deception deck the uses Cutthroat Insight.

Hi, I like the combo "Toast of peace" and "Divine Coronet", nice post.👍👍👍
