I played deception for the first time!

Greetings everyone,

Now it has been a while since I started playing decks from various gods every once in a while. I decided that sticking to one or two gods will not benefit me game knowledge wise as well as it might make the game a little bit repetitive and boring at a certain point.

So my journey so far covered some deck of all gods except the goddess of deception Ludia! I play decks varying from aggro, control, zombies, order for each god and now it was time to take on deception for the first time ever!

Now I was planning to go for it for a while now since I watch a lot of deception and it feel unique and different so I imagined I would have a lot of fun with it but not expecting to do great since the very beginning. Even my previous gameplay deception posts were piloted by my friend so now it was time now to try it with the cards I own so let's jump into it.

The Deck I Used

Now I am not an expert in making decks especially for deception, and at the same time I did not want to copy a deck directly and use it. So I built this one from cards I own and from knowledge I have from watching deception games from various places.

Now I do not know if this can be called hidden rush although I played it like one since most of my game I was hiding my creatures to do face damage with them but I can say it is an aggro deception deck pretty much with a little bit of thievery. But for it to be a better hidden rush it would require some more cards to be better.

It was fun though to say the least and a new game style to use although the results were not fantastic with some practice and improvements I can do better.

Matchups Breakdown

Magic1/2
Death0/1

Deception0/1

I played this deck for 12 matches only and won half of them. It was a little bot of a struggle and I did some mistakes since in some situations I did not know what to do. Although I did very well against war and most of my games against them were a race since they were all aggro. Also did well against nature but struggled with all the rest.

Cards to add to make it a better Hidden Rush

Well I noticed that the deck did not have a specific goal for me, maybe I am just not experience enough. But I though that I should known the exact purpose of it thus adding some cards to shift it to a specific playstyle. These are the cards that I would say would make it a better hidden rush:

Shade Walker

This card would be amazing to shift this deck a little bit towards hidden rush. Since every turn he gets more strength and you get to hide him with your gods power this can guarantee you at least 9 damage of not more if the opponent did not have any untargeted spells.

So if you are playing against nature for example, try to bait out as much spells as possible and then play this one!

Needle Fang Chameleon

I noticed this one in very few decks and it is a great card for hidden rushes. Although I do not face it a lot probably because it is a little bit more expensive but definitely a great one to have for hidden rush decks since it serves different purposes. It can get you some damage early game and then help you get rid of a creature that is stronger than it with the burn or make the enemy use a higher mana spell to kill it.

Assassin's aim

Maybe throwing in one of these can come in handy at some point to get some damage. Especially since it will hide your creature at the end of the turn, you do not have to use god power on this turn so you could use mana for something else so it can help you also get more damage in.

Cards to buy in the future

These are some cards I am trying to obtain because they bring quality and different style of gameplay for deception decks:

The Hollow

Now as we all know this card bring a whole new game style for deception, playing around it can get you a lot of cards that can help you immensely in the game although it might need some time to get used to using it and building decks around it. But definitely on my plans to get in the future even after the nerf.

Lady Marcella

This one can help in many situations and in several decks. Although it might sometimes be bad for you because it gives your opponent two deadly 1/1 creatures, but using it at a good time can be a huge game changer and definitely a good card to have but needs a bit more getting used to.

Shadow of Lethenon

Meow Meow! This cat is like a thorn in the side of your opponent who does not have a lot of non targeted spells. It can stay there forever, keep dealing face damage and a huge one for hidden rushes. Although non targeted spells are so often now, it might not be always so valuable but in some situations it can be game changing. Plus it will probably give its 1 mana worth in most situations so a good card to have!

Final Thoughts

I had tons of fun using deception since I felt like it is a completely unique god to use playstyle wise. Although it might not be very meta at the moment, especially the hidden rush decks, it still can get you wins once you build a good deck and most importantly master it.

So I would advise everyone to never judge a god or a certain deck directly after trying it for a while, if your plan is to get wins, watch the meta, keep improving on the deck and last and most importantly, master it! Know all the ins and outs, the purpose of it and how to pilot it very well!

That was it for this post, I will probably be playing more deception for a while now so I might post a new deck later on, but definitely not in weekend rank because I still do not feel like I am ready to go with it with deception!

Stay tuned for more and wish everyone a wonderful day!
Mad Love, Peace out <3

Haha, I also tried playing Deception once and ended up losing half my games 😂 Definitely not an easy god to pilot, hope you'll have more success with it in the future!

I love playing deception! Although it is a bit more challenging, because usually you have to adapt your strategy on the fly, but that's exactly why I enjoy it. Using your opponents own cards against them. Starting off with a Patient Pickpocket or Armor Lurker always feels great! And if they have a weapon, turn 3 Counterfeit easily turns the early game around. Hope you keep on improving :D

Agreed deception is definitely a unique god to play. I am going to play my ranked games with it this week to get shit on :p
