Building Figures ~ KILOWOG

in Toys on Hive3 years ago

If you collect action figures, then you are no stranger to the concept of the BAF...or Build-A-Figure for you normies. I believe that the BAF concept started several waves into the Marvel Legends line from Toy Biz and has continued on through various toy lines ever since.

The idea behind the concept is simple. Each figure in the wave (or select figures) contains not only the action figure and its accessories, but a piece to build a completely separate figure. These pieces can be a head, torso, right and left legs and arms, and sometimes an accessory.

It was a genius idea to try to convince folks to purchase ALL of the figures in the wave, and not just a few select ones. In our purchasing of collections through the years at our shop Conquest Comics, we’ve acquired a fair amount of various BAF parts and are now looking at trying to piece these together. Over the next several weeks, I’ll be showcasing different pieces and telling you all a bit about them.

Today we are going to look at one BAF in particular...

KILOWOG!!!

Kilowog is a Green Lantern and was the BAF in Mattel’s DC Universe Classics line during its 11th wave. Below is the breakdown of what Kilowog piece came with which figure.

We currently seem to have all the pieces to build Kilowog except for one...the left arm which comes with the John Stewart figure.

For now, Kilowog will sit armless in our box until we acquire the piece. We are going to make a major push to alert our customers to bring in unwanted BAF pieces for store credit. Ton of collectors have random BAF parts that they will never complete just wasting away. We want those tasty limbs...and are putting forth a real push to try to pry them from the unwanted.

Soon we will complete Kilowog...and a good thing because most BAF’s end up fetching some impressive coin. Kilowog seems to average anywhere between $100-$200 bucks these days so it’s definitely in our best interest to complete him ASAP so he can end up in our loose figure bins!

Folks love wading and digging through our bins and finding complete BAF’s! Hopefully the left arm will be one that we can finagle soon!!!

Thx for looking and check back for a look at more BAF’s!!!

I hate the BAF concept personally. Charge me the correct price for the big figure (and lessor price for the regular ones) and make it better since it doesn't need to be assembled by the customer. Then they can stop making figures that nobody wants and focus on better figures.

Just an opinion...but those peg warmers really kill every single line.

I totally understand the hate for it as well. But I dig em. I think it was a unique addition, especially at first. I also have a fondness fir the old toybiz legends.

Jut got in (and then sold in a matter of less then an hour) the SDCC Sentinal from 2011. That is how the big figures should be made. It is an amazing figure and the packaging is really cool.

I have been hankering for the Kilowog CnC forever! I have to content myself for now with the Movie Masters version of Kilowog. It's a great figure, too.
