A universe of Lego

I just finished another Lego kit that I treated myself to, thanks to some vouchers I was given. I have always been fascinated with space and I also love mechanisms, so this kit ticked some boxes. It is a basic orrery that shows how bodies move relative to each other. It is very much not to scale, but that would not be viable. I pulled some numbers out of my head during the video, but I suspect that the Sun would be huge in proportion to this Earth.

As I said, it seems fairly accurate in terms of how long it takes the Moon to orbit the Earth over a yearly cycle. There are a lot of gears in there and someone did the sums. The mechanism is very smooth and easy to turn.

Younger kids could build this, but might need some help as there are a lot of steps and you need to get things right at each stage. I had to double check some steps. As usual with these big kits there were a small parts left over, but there were none missing. You do have to affix a few stickers for the months and lunar phases.

It could be a nice educational aid. You can demonstrate how the tilt of the Earth causes the seasons.

A great gift for those flat-Earther Lego fans around the globe.

The only thing that’s keeping me away from getting all the Lego sets are the prices 😭😭

I agree they are not cheap, so I get them as gifts or treat myself now and again.

I wonder if I could get one with Australia on the top of the world instead of stuck down at the bottom. !LOL

You would think at least one of them would have seen it.

Ha that's more like it !BEER

Dude, what a cool freaking toy. Me wants.

My wife is bigtime into Astronomy and she is pointing out there's a lil issue with the lego design. The Moon should be tilted too, to follow the equatorial line.

I've just told her I want the Flat earth model for Xmas. We agreed to disagree.

They had to make some compromises, but I think it's cool anyway.

very cool...

I never got a Lego but I think is the ideal toy for kids.

I BELIEVE IN FLAT PLATE LEGO THEORY!

Interesting. Did you know that Lego doesn't like when people say "Legos". They say that plural should be "Lego bricks" or "Lego blocks".

They get very angry. Don’t mess with the Danes! Triggers Viking mode!

I've heard some people say Legos, but a brand can't always control how their name is used

I just cannot understand why there would still be Flat-Earthers around in this day and age. !LOL

Why did Mickey Mouse get a pie on his face?
Because Donald ducked!

I think it's about distrusting authorities rather than actually believing the world is flat. I've found that there's not much point in debating with them. There are some on Hive.

I prefer to enjoy the wonders of nature.

It's an age-old argument, and you are correct to just let it be. Do you also find that Covid has made people more suspicious?

Same here, as you know that I also have a passion for nature.

I heard someone this week discussing 'conspiracy fictions' rather than 'theories'. A lot of it is just so ridiculous, but people will convince themselves that they have the secret knowledge of what is going on. That's dangerous when they get political power...

Conspiracy theories have been around since the beginning of time my friend, and fictions are a good way to describe it. There are so many instances when their fictions are exposed as hogwash, but then they will just invent another true story in their own minds.
Dangerous indeed in the wrong hands.

When you trust online nonsense more than readily-observable proof the world is a spheroid just to prove how much you don't trust the government/media/academia, it is quite sad.

A great gift for those flat-Earther Lego fans around the globe.

I was stunned with the accuracy that you mention. That is for sure a great Lego to be mounted in those long rainy afternoons... It might be a future gift for one of my friend's younger sons

Wow never knew this product existed and completely throws my belief as a flat earther! Haha! I’m not of course!

I’ve always wanted a Globe, I have had smaller ones in the past but whenever I come across one in an antiques shop, National Trust house or wherever; I get very nerdy indeed. My wife disowns me at those points in time I notice.

The globe makers have suppressed the flat Earth reality!

Maps are fascinating.

The whole build is pretty fire man. The gears moving the moon and Earth is very smooth too. Haven't heard Lego anything , I think it'll be awesome to start setting some up for myself
