Yeah i love an underpainting. seriously that is a 5 min affair as well. it is simply to get some shapes on the canvas. its funny how much it changes the upper layers even though you don't think you can see it.

I have seen some of it before. One time, someone used bright pink as an underlayer and another uses gold! I'm sure it has a way to brighten some parts of the finished piece. It totally makes sense.
